(Mar. 3) -Junior Lora Turner recorded a
team-high 18 points and chipped in three steals vs. Case Western
Reserve in the team's final game of the year.
The 5-foot-11 Turner sank seven-of-12 from the floor and
four-of-six from the foul line in registering her 21st
double-figure scoring effort of the year. Turner closed out the
year by either leading or sharing for team scoring honors on 14
occasions including four of the last five contests.
In addition to pacing the Eagles in scoring with a 14.3 points per
game average, Turner also grabbed a team-high 6.5 rebounds per
outing. She totaled 357 points in '07-08, good for 10th place
on the school's seasonal chart.
(Feb. 25) - Junior Erica Kaplan helped the
Eagles to a pair of road wins over the weekend, boosting the
squad's mark to 7-2 over the last nine games.
In contests against Carnegie Mellon and No. 17-ranked Rochester,
Kaplan averaged 10.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0
assists.
In a dramatic 59-56 win over Rochester, Kaplan scored 12 of her
game-high 16 points in the second half, helping rally the Eagles
from a 29-22 halftime deficit. She went five-of-11 from the
field, including two-of-two from three-point range, and converted
all four of her free throw opportunities en route to her 12th
double-figure scoring performance of the season. Kaplan
scored seven points over the final 3:50 of the game which played a
key role in erasing a four-point UR lead. Her three-pointer
with 3:12 on the clock gave Emory a 52-51 lead while her two free
throws with seven seconds left on the clock closed out the game's
scoring. All totaled on the weekend, she shot six-of-14 from
the floor, including three-of-four from beyond the arc, and knocked
down all six of her free throw opportunities.
Emory's 7-6 slate UAA action represents the most wins in league
play for the Eagles since the 1999-2000 campaign when that club
finished with a 7-8 mark.
(Feb. 18) - Junior Lora Turner led Emory in
scoring in each of the Eagles' final two home games of the season
in helping the squad to a split.
Turner recorded 13 points and contributed two blocked shots in
Friday's game vs. Chicago before totaling a game-high 23 points
along with a team-high tying seven rebounds in a 68-66 triumph over
No. 23-ranked Washington University. Turner hit eight-of-14
from the floor and six-of-10 from the foul line en route to her
18th double-figure scoring effort of the year and fifth of 20 or
more points.
In the two games, Turner shot 56.5 percent (13-of-23) from the
floor while averaging 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds. She has either led
or shared for team scoring and rebounding honors in 12 games this
year. In addition, Turner's 23 points against Washington
Univ., enabled to move into 11th place on the school's all-time
scoring list with 850 points.
(Feb. 11) - Sophomore LeShonda Lillard averaged
14.5 points, 3.5 assists and 3.5 steals in helping the Eagles to a
pair of road wins.
In a 75-63 victory over Brandeis, Lillard totaled 13 points, tying
for second high on the squad, and registered four steals and four
assists. She hit five-of-10 from the floor, including
two-of-three from three-point range. She followed that
performance with a 16-point afternoon against New York University
in helping the Eagles to a 64-61 triumph. She knocked down
seven-of-13 from the floor, including one-of-three from beyond the
arc, and also contributed three steals and three assists.
In the two games, she shot 52.2 percent (12-of-23) from the
floor. Lillard has scored in double figures in her last five
and in a total of 13 games this year. She has registered
steals in 17 contests and has 15 outings of two or more thefts.
Her 48 steals currently places her 11th on the school's
seasonal chart.
(Feb. 4) - Junior Kate Corkle averaged
10.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists in helping Emory to a
split of a pair of UAA games.
In an 80-60 triumph over No. 21 NYU, the 5-foot-6 Corkle totaled
eight points, three rebounds and one steal. She followed that
performance with career highs in both points (13) and rebounds (7)
in a 70-66 setback to Brandeis University. Against the Judges, she
converted four-of-nine from the floor, including two-of-three from
three-point range. Over the weekend, she knocked down
seven-of-16 from the floor (.438), including three-of-six from
three-point range, and four-of-five from the line.
Through games played Feb. 3, Corkle has started 10 of the Eagles'
18 contests and is averaging 16.2 minutes, 3.7 points and 2.4
rebounds per game.
(Jan. 28) - Sophomore LeShonda Lillard
chalked up a pair of impressive performances on the offensive and
defensive ends of the floor this past weekend in helping the Eagles
to a split of two University Athletic Association
contests.
The 5-foot-6 Lillard averaged 13.0 points, 2.5 assists and 4.5
steals in games against No. 10-ranked Rochester and Carnegie
Mellon. Against the Yellowjackets of Rochester, she led the
Eagles with a season-high tying 18 points while chalking up a pair
of assists along with a season-high tying five steals in a tight
57-54 defeat. On Sunday, Lillard helped the Eagles to their
first UAA win of the campaign with a solid all-around effort that
included eight points, three blocked shots and four steals. In the
two games, she shot 47.8 percent from the floor (11-of-23) while
her steals total boosted her team-leading average to 2.38 per
game
Through games played Jan. 27, LeShonda stands 19th among UAA
players in scoring (9.8 ppg) and is fourth in steals.
(Jan. 21) - Sophomore LeShonda Lillard was the
lone Emory player to score in double figures in both of the Eagles'
UAA road games this past weekend, averaging 14.5 points and 4.5
assists in contests against Washington University and the
University of Chicago.
Against the Bears of Washington Univ., the 5-foot-6 Lillard paced
the squad in scoring with a season-high 18 points while doling out
five assists. Lillard hit seven-of-14 from the field,
including two-of-three from three-point range, and both of her free
throw opportunities. She followed that performance with an
11-point afternoon against Chicago, second high on the team, along
with four assists.
Lillard has scored in double figures in four straight and in a
total of eight games this season. She is 19th among UAA
players in scoring (9.3 ppg) and her team-high 2.93 assists per
game ties her for seventh on the UAA chart.
(Jan. 14) -- Sophomore Whitney Martin came off
the bench and posted a career-high tying 14 points (second high on
the team), six rebounds and one steal in last Saturday's 76-72
setback to Case Western Reserve University.
The 6-foot Martin sank four-of-seven field goal attempts and
six-of-seven from the line en route to her second double-figure
scoring game of the season and fourth of her career. Martin has
shot 50 percent or better in her last five and in a total of eight
games this season.
(Jan. 7) - Junior Lora Turner was Emory's top
point producer in each of two games, shooting 68 percent from the
floor (17-of-25) while averaging 19.0 points and 6.0 rebounds.
In an 80-69 setback to Birmingham Southern, the 5-foot-11 Turner
converted 10-of-13 from the floor en route to a season-high 21
points as well as picking up a team-best four rebounds. Turner
followed that performance by hitting seven-of-12 field goal
opportunities and three-of-four from the line in a 17-point effort
against Agnes Scott.
So far this year, Turner has scored in double digits in 10 games
and leads the club in scoring (15.9 ppg), rebounding (7.3 rpg) and
field goal shooting (.553).
(Dec. 18) - Erica Kaplan had the hot hand in a
79-67 win over South on Dec. 11, sharing for team honors with a
season-high 20 points while also tying for the team high with eight
rebounds. Kaplan concluded the game by sinking six-of-nine
from the floor, including a career-high tying six-of-seven from
three-point range, and both of her free throw opportunities.
Kaplan sank all five of her attempts from beyond the arc in the
first half of action. Kaplan's six treys against South boosted her
career total to 81, good for sixth place on the school's all-time
list.
Kaplan is No. 2 on the team and 12th among UAA players with an 11.4
points per-game average. The owner of five double-figure
scoring games, Kaplan tops all UAA cagers with a keen 47.5 percent
mark (19-of-40) from three-point range.
(Dec. 10) - Junior Lora Turner averaged 16.5
points and 7.5 rebounds in a pair of Emory games.
In an 87-78 setback at No. 25-ranked Oglethorpe, Turner paced the
team with 21 points, hitting seven-of-10 from the floor and
seven-of-nine from the charity stripe. On Saturday, she posted 12
points, her sixth double-figure scoring performance of the
campaign, while pulling down a team-high nine boards in a 64-62
loss to Maryville College. In the two games, she connected on 60
percent from the floor (12-of-20) and 81.8 percent (9-of-11) from
the foul line. Through seven outings, Turner has led or shared for
team's scoring lead on four occasions while ranking as the team's
leading rebounder in four affairs.
(Dec. 3) - Erica Kaplan recorded a pair of
double-figure scoring contests last week in helping the Eagles to
two wins.
The 5-foot-7 Kaplan totaled a game-high 16 points, while chipping
in three assists and two steals in 26 minutes worth of action, in a
79-44 win against LaGrange College before finishing with 11 points,
a team-high tying eight rebounds and three steals in a 69-57
triumph at Huntingdon College. Kaplan shot 45 percent from the
floor (9-of-20), including 50 percent from three-point range
(4-of-8), and five-of-six from the charity stripe in the two
outings.
Through five contests, Kaplan is averaging 11.2 points per game and
is shooting 44.0 percent from three-point range (11-of-25).
(Nov. 26) - Junior Lora Turner tossed in a
team-high 17 points and pulled down nine rebounds in the Eagles'
game last week against Piedmont College. Turner hit on seven-of-13
from the field en route to her third straight double-figure scoring
performance.
After three games, Turner leads the team in both scoring (15.7 ppg)
and rebounding (9.3 rpg).
(Nov. 19) - Junior Lora Turner averaged 15.0
points and 9.5 rebounds in helping the Eagles to a pair of wins in
the inaugural Emory Tip-Off Tournament. Turner picked up 11 points
in a 93-55 season-opening win against Spelman before leading all
players with 19 points and a career-high 16 rebounds in a 55-54
triumph against Montclair State.
Turner's 16 boards represented her fifth career outing of 10 or
more rebounds and tied for the 10th-highest single-game mark in
school history
