Emory Women's Basketball Takes To The Road For UAA Action

GAME FACTS – After registering a split of a pair of University Athletic Association home games last weekend, the Emory women’s basketball squad continues league play with road games this Friday and Sunday (Jan. 28 & 30).  Auberbach Gymnasium on the Brandeis campus will serve as the venue of the 44th meeting between the Judges and Eagles and tip is slated for 6:00 p.m.  On Sunday, the scene shifts to the Coles Sports Center on the NYU campus for the 44th clash between the Violets and Emory with that affair starting at 2:00 p.m.

THE COACHES – Emory Head Coach Christy Thomaskutty (Tulane, ’96) is in her eighth season at the helm of the program.  She assumed her current duties prior to the start of the 2003-04 campaign. 

In her 24th campaign at the helm of the Brandeis program is Carol Simon (Colby College, 1985).  During her tenure with the Judges, she has manufactured a total of 346 victories.

Stefano Trompeo (Florida, 2003) is in his third year in calling the shots at New York University.  Heading into a Friday affair at the University of Rochester, Trompeo has recorded a school and career mark of 47-25.

2010-11 RECORDS – Emory ventures into the Brandeis game with an overall record of 8-8 (1-4 UAA).  Last Friday, Emory came out on the short end of a 71-65 decision to Case Western before notching its first league win of the campaign, an 82-60 verdict over Carnegie Mellon on Sunday.  

Brandeis hosts Emory with an overall ledger of 9-7 and stands 1-4 in the UAA.  Last weekend, the Judges lost a pair of a home games, falling to the University of Chicago, 71-38, and Washington University, 66-36.

NYU will host Rochester on Friday looking to improve upon its overall record of 8-8, 2-3 in the UAA.  Last weekend, the Violets were defeated by Wash U., 80-54, and Chicago, 87-81. 

SERIES RECORDS – In a series that dates from January of 1989, Emory holds a slim 22-21 all-time record vs. Brandeis.  The Eagles and Judges split the series last year with each team winning on the road. Emory recorded a 73-65 decision in Waltham before the Judges came back to post a 58-38 victory in Atlanta.  Brandeis is 12-10 against Emory in games played on its home floor.

In a series that also has its origins in January of 1989, NYU has compiled a 33-10 record against Emory. Last year, the programs split the series with the Violets winning at home, 59-55, and Emory earning a 70-56 triumph in Atlanta.

NOTES – Sophomore Danielle Landry helped the Eagles to their first win in UAA play, totaling a career-best 18 points and tying for team honors with seven boards in an 82-60 win over Carnegie Mellon ... Landry is tied for the No. 2 spot in the UAA in rebounding (7.4 rpg) and has grabbed six or more rebounds on nine occasions … Sophomore Misha Jackson snared a season-best 12 boards vs. Case Western Reserve, the second-highest mark by an Emory player this season, and came up with six steals, representing the highest total by an Eagle in 2010-11 … Heading into the weekend, Jackson is tied for the No. 7 position in the UAA in rebounding with a 6.7 per-game average … Junior Emily Hyncik also aided in the win over Carnegie Mellon by coming off the bench to produce 17 points, the second-highest point total by an Emory reserve this year .. Freshman Savannah Morgan scored in double figures in games against Case Western and Carnegie Mellon, giving her seven double-digit scoring outings this season ... Emory recorded 17 steals against both Case and Carnegie and has 11 games of 10 or more thefts ... Emory leads the UAA and ranks 34th nationally in steals (13.2 spg) ... The Eagles also top the UAA in scoring with a 76.4 per-game average, good for ninth place nationally ... Freshman Hannah Lilly, the team's leading scorer (11.4 ppg), has scored in double figures on eight occasions … Lilly is 11th among UAA players in scoring … The Eagles are 18-3 during Thomaskutty’s tenure as head coach when scoring 80 or more points … The Eagles hold down the No. 2 slot among UAA clubs and rank 12th nationally in assists (17.9 apg) … Emory has outshot nine opponents from the floor this season and stands 8-1 in those contests … The Eagles have enjoyed an edge in the  rebounding department in six games and post a 6-0 mark in those outings … Emory has outscored the opposition in 18 of 32 halves … In its eight victories, Emory is averaging 87.8 points and shooting 45.8 percent from the field … In their eight setbacks, the Eagles are averaging 65.1 points and connecting at a 36.8 percent clip of their field goal tries … Savannah Morgan has led or tied for the team lead in assists on 12 occasions and her 4.3 per-game average in that category is good for a fourth-place tie in the UAA and 65th nationally.
