No. 10 Emory Women's Basketball Drubs Bridgewater In St. Petersburg Classic Opener

Emory senior Hannah Lilly scored a game-high 17 points and the Eagles made the most of a balanced offensive attack that featured five double-figure scorers in a Friday-evening victory over Bridgewater College.  Emory boosted its overall to 8-0 following an 80-43 decision over Bridgewater who fell to 2-5.  The game was played at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Lilly converted seven-of-12 field goal opportunities, including three of her four attempts from three-point range, in registering her seventh double-figure scoring game in as many outings.  Senior Savannah Morgan totaled 12 points, sinking six-of-11 from the floor, and doled out four assists with no turnovers in 20 minutes of action.  Senior Selena Castillo and sophomore Khadijah Sayyid each contributed 11 points while sophomore Ilene Tsao rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.   Tsao also led the squad with six rebounds and a career-high six steals.

The Eagles concluded the contest shooting 44.6 percent (33-of-74) field while limiting BC 29.8 percent (14-of-47), an Emory opponent low on the year.  Bridgewater did have an edge in the rebounding department by a 42-35 margin, but turned the ball over on 40 occasions to Emory's 16 miscues.   Emory came up with 23 steals and enjoyed a 37-9 bulge in points off turnovers, 37-9.

With Lilly and Castillo scoring 11 and seven points, respectively, Emory cruised to a 40-18 halftime lead.  Holding a 15-11 advantage with 11:43 left in the first stanza, Castillo scored five points as part of a 9-0 Emory run that pushed its lead to 24-11.  After Bridgewater's Marissa Ivey hit a pair of free throws to draw it to within a dozen points, Emory held BC scoreless over the final 4:50 of the half, scoring the final 10 points of the stanza to account for the 22-point cushion.

Emory was never threatened over the final 20 minutes of play, opening the stanza on a 17-6 blitz that saw six different players account for the scoring over that stretch.  A three-pointer by Lilly upped Emory's cushion to 66-30 with 11:25 remaining, before building a pair of 42-point leads over the final 5:53 of the contest.  All 16 players who dressed saw action with 12 finding their way into both the scoring and rebounding columns.

Emory closes out its participation in the St. Petersburg Classic with a Saturday afternoon bout against Randolph College (8-2).  The WildCats opened the Classic with a 68-64 triumph over Alverno.
