Emory Women's Basketball Gears Up For UAA Road Games At NYU & Brandeis

GAME FACTS – The Emory women's basketball team makes its first University Athletic Association road trip of the young season when it battles nationally ranked New York University on Friday (Jan. 15) before taking on Brandeis on Sunday (Jan. 17).

The Jerome Coles Center on the NYU campus will be the site of the 54th meeting between the Eagles and Violets and tip is scheduled for 6:00 pm. On Sunday, the venue shifts to Auerbach Arena at Brandeis for the 54th confrontation between the Eagles and Judges with that contest scheduled for a 1:00 pm start.

THE COACHES – Emory head coach Christy Thomaskutty (Tulane, '96) is in her 13th season in charge of the Eagles.  She assumed her current duties prior to the start of the 2003-04 campaign and enters Friday's action with a school and career mark of 168-147. Thomaskutty is assisted by Misha Jackson, Kim Coleman and Corneille Burt Algarra.

Lauren Hall-Gregory (Hofstra, '03) is in her fourth season as the head coach at NYU.  During her stint with the Violets, she has compiled a record of 64-26 that includes a pair of both 20-win seasons and trips to the NCAA Tournament.  Prior to her current post, Hall-Gregory spent four years as an assistant coach at Division I member Sacred Heart University.

Now in her 29th season in patrolling the sidelines for Brandeis is Carol Simon (Colby, '85).  Heading into a Friday match-up against Rochester, Simon has compiled 405 wins including a mark of 186-113 over the past 12 years.  She recorded her 400th career win on November 14, 2015, with a 70-54 verdict over Eastern Nazarene.

RECORDS – Emory brings an overall record of 9-3, 0-1 in UAA action, into its meeting against NYU.  The Eagles came out on the short end of a 75-68 verdict at home to Rochester this past Saturday, snapping a three-game win streak and representing their first loss at the Woodpec in six outings.

In that game, junior Michelle Bevan led all players with 18 points, sinking seven-of-14 field goal attempts, while senior Ilene Tsao totaled a season-high 14 points to go along with a season-high tying eight assists. Three-point shooting proved to be a determining factor in the outcome with the Yellowjackets converting 47.8 percent (11 of 23) compared to Emory sinking a season-low two triples in 15 tries.

Emory is 5-1 at home and 4-2 in road/neutral settings this season.

New York University, ranked No. 4 nationally by D3hoops.com, entertains Emory with an overall slate of 12-0, 1-0 in the league.  The Violets remained undefeated after rolling to a 58-31 victory at Hunter College on Monday night.  NYU opened UAA action last Saturday with a 57-46 win at home over Brandeis.

NYU is 6-0 in home games this season and 6-0 in road contests.
