Emory Women's Basketball Lands Two On All-UAA Team

Two members of the 2016-17 Emory University women's basketball squad have been selected to the All-University Athletic Association Team.  The all-league picks were chosen by the conference coaches.

Sophomore Ashley Oldshue (Glenview, IL) was tabbed as a first-team honoree, while senior Shellie Kaniut (Vienna, VA) was a second-team selection for the second straight season.

The 6-foot-2 Oldshue enjoyed a banner campaign, starting all 25 games and ranking among the UAA's top 10 performers in a host of statistical categories. A double-figure scorer in the squad's last 22 games (24 total on the season), Oldshue tossed in a team-high 16.5 points per game, good for fifth place in the conference. She ranked the Eagles' top scorer in nine games and tallied 20 or more points on five occasions. She was successful on a team-high 55.4 percent (150 of 271) from the floor, placing fourth in the conference and fifth on the program's seasonal list. Efficient from the charity stripe as well, she finished the regular season fifth in the league with an 81.0 percent effort at the foul line, converting a school-record 111 free throws in 137 opportunities. The team's leading rebounder in 11 outings, her per-game average of 7.1 ranked sixth in the UAA. She turned in four games with 10 or more boards including a career-high of 16 against Oglethorpe that tied the program's 12th-highest individual game total.  In conference play, Oldshue stood fourth on the UAA chart in scoring average (16.9 ppg), second in field goal percentage (.565, 87 of 154), fifth in free throw percentage and ninth in rebounding (6.6 rpg).

Kaniut appeared in 24 Emory contests, 22 in a starting capacity, and concluded the campaign second on the squad and eighth among UAA players with a 14.6 per-game scoring average in overall action.  She recorded 18 double-figure scoring contests, 10 of which came in UAA play.  The Eagles' leading scorer on 10 occasions, she produced six contests of 20 or more points, including a career-high 27 at New York University (Feb. 5), which represented the high-water mark by an Emory player this year.  She connected on 45.3 percent (149 of 329) of her field goal attempts, ranking 17th on the conference chart, and closed out the regular season in the No. 13 slot in assists average (2.5 apg). A force at the defensive end of the floor, she compiled a team-leading 47 steals and averaged 2.5 thefts per outing, good for sixth place on the league ladder. In league contests, Kaniut averaged 15.4 points, the eighth-highest mark in the conference, and was 14th in field goal shooting at 45.8 percent (88 of 192).  Career-wise, she saw action in 93 games and finished 10th in points (946) and eighth in steals (166) on the school's all-time lists.

Emory closed out the season with an overall ledger of 15-10, 6-8 in the UAA.
