Women’s Basketball Takes 76-53 Win over Brandeis on Senior Day

The Emory women's basketball team pulled out a huge 76-53 victory over the Brandeis Judges on Sunday afternoon in Atlanta, Georgia.

The win moves the Eagles to a 7-6 conference record and a 16-7 overall record with just one game left to play in the regular season. Brandeis moves to 1-12 in the UAA and 6-18 overall this season. Prior to the start of the game, the Eagles honored their senior class of Claire Brock, Mariane Auza and Charlotte Lowndes with a special on-court ceremony.

Brock and sophomore Daniella Aronsky continued to be a dynamic duo with Brock leading all scorers with 17 points and Aronsky recording seven assists. Aronsky, who currently leads the nation with 6.7 assists per game, is now up to 154 assists this season, one shy of tying Lindsey Tse's record of 155 for most in a single season in team history. Brock currently leads the Eagles with 365 points on the season, averaging 16.6 per game. Lowndes got her first start of the season and posted a career-high nine points while junior Paige Gross scored eight points off the bench.

Emory showed impressive three point defense, holding the Judges to 5-for-21 shooting and did not allow a single three pointer in the second half of the game. The Eagles were also able to take advantage of errors from the Judges, scoring 13 points off of turnovers and 14 second chance points.

The first quarter was a fight between the two teams with Emory taking a 23-17 lead into the second quarter. The Eagles held the lead for most of the quarter, but the Judges were able to close the gap and tie the game near the end of the first. Emory exploded in the second quarter holding the Judges to just 11 points and forcing five turnovers as they headed into halftime with a 40-28 lead.

The third quarter proved to be a defensive battle between both teams as the Emory was held to 16 points to the Judges' nine. Once again, the Eagles were able to capitalize on mistakes from Brandeis forcing seven more turnovers in the third quarter. The Eagles were hot again in the fourth quarter scoring 20 points and finishing senior day with their 76-53 victory.

The Eagles are back on the road on Saturday, February 25 at 12 pm against Rochester for the final game of the regular season.
