Women’s Basketball Drops NCAA First Round Game to Millikin, 76-70

The Emory University women's basketball team ended their season with a 76-70 loss to Millikin University in the first round of the NCAA tournament in Lexington, Kentucky.

The Eagles finish the season with a 17-8 record wheras Millikin improves to 24-4 on the season and will face host Transylvania University on Saturday, March 4 in the second round.

Once again, sophomore Daniella Aronsky led the Eagles with 19 points followed closely by sophomore Morgan Laudick with 13. Aronsky also recorded four assists on the day. Freshman Lily Kennedy scored nine points off the bench and totaled six rebounds for Emory.

The Eagles showed great three-point defense holding the Big Blue to just 4-for-12 shooting in three pointers, but Millikin was able to bank 16 free throws, posting a 66.7% free throw percentage. The Big Blue were also able to force 17 turnovers to their 14 while the Eagles struggled with getting second chance points.

The Eagles took a 17-15 lead into the second quarter, with freshman Katherine Martini playing a major role in the quarter. Millikin was able to answer in the second quarter taking a 43-33 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Big Blue held the lead into the third quarter until the Eagles were able to tie the game at 43, but Millikin's offense exploded to take a 56-50 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Emory wasn't able to mount a comeback despite a tremendous effort and Millikin took the game by a final score of 76-70.
