Women's Golf Second Following Opening Round of Golfweek DIII Invitational

The Emory University women's golf team finished out the first round of play at the DIII Golfweek Invite with a second place result as they trail the leader by a single stroke. The tournament is being played at the 5,601-yard, par-72 Baytowne Golf Club course in Sandestin, FL.

The No. 4 ranked Eagles closed out the first round with a score of 294 which sees them trail Oglethorpe by a single stroke. The tournament field of 24 teams consists of 12 teams ranked within the top 25 with six of them inside the top 10 of the latest WGCA Top 25 Poll. Rounding out the podium after day one is No. 6 ranked conference foe Carnegie Mellon who scored a 297.

Sitting atop the leaderboard for the Eagles are sophomores Sharon Mun and Ellen Dong who each shot a one-under par 71 in the first round which places them in a tie for third place. Freshman Kiley Malmberg registered the best round of her young collegiate career posting a three-over par 75 which places her in a 20th place tie. In her first ever collegiate tournament, freshman Katie Park notched a 77 to place her in a tie for 33rd. Rounding out scoring for the Eagles was junior Mariana Chong whose score of 80 knots her up in 61st.

The Eagles return to action at the DIII Golfweek Invite tomorrow morning as they look to better their placement and win their second tournament of the season.
