The Emory University women's soccer team capitalized by scoring
a pair of goals off corner kicks from senior Talia
Dweck, as the Eagles won their third-straight match with a
3-0 win over Guilford College.
The Eagles remained undefeated against Division III opponents this
season with the victory, going to 4-0-3 over their last seven
contests. Emory improved to 4-1-3 overall this season, while
the Quakers fell to 2-7-0.
Emory's first goal of the game came in the 19th-minute,
as senior Olivia Lezanski stole the ball at
midfield, and quickly made a leading pass to Meghan
McMahon, who converted for the score. The goal was
the team-leading third of the season for McMahon, a junior, and her
team-best second game-winner of the year.
The Eagles would add another first half goal in the
37th-minute, as Dweck's corner kick found freshman
Katy Kruse in the box, who knocked it in for her
first collegiate goal.
Emory extended their lead to 3-0 in the second half off another
perfect Dweck corner kick, this time finding the head of
Emily Rubin who finished it for the score.
It was Rubin's third goal of the season, all off Dweck corner
kicks, tying her with McMahon for the team lead.
Dweck now has a team-best five assists this season, and five total
points.
The Emory defense kept Guilford in check throughout the match,
allowing just one shot in the 75th minute for the team's
third shutout of the season. Junior Kirsten
Baecher earned the win with 71 minutes in goal, before she
was relieved by freshman Erica Stein, who made one
save in 19 minutes.
Emory will return to action next week, hosting Spelman College on
Wednesday, September 30th at 7:00 PM.
