Emory Wins its Second-Straight with 1-0 Victory Over Oglethorpe

Emory Wins its Second-Straight with 1-0 Victory Over Oglethorpe

The Emory University women's soccer team once again capitalized off a strong defensive performance to defeat Oglethorpe University 1-0 in its final road game of the season.

The Emory backfield allowed just five shots to the Stormy Petrels during the match, none of which were on goal.  It was the fourth shutout of the season for the Eagles, who have now allowed just two goals in their last three games.

The pressure applied by the Emory defense paid off on the offensive side of the ball as well, as the Eagles forced Oglethorpe into an own goal just 18 seconds in the second half of play.  The own goal was the deciding score in the match.

Emory took 24 shots during the match, seven of which were on goal.  15 of Emory's shots came during the second half of play.

Emory freshman Erica Stein made her third-consecutive start in goal for Emory, and fourth overall this season, and was credited with both the win and the shutout, despite not having to make a save during the contest.  She improved to 3-1-0 on the year with two shutouts and a 0.45 goals against average.

Emory regained a winning record on the season with the victory, improving to 6-5-5 on the season.  Oglethorpe fell to 5-11-0 for the campaign with the loss.

The Eagles will return home for their final games of the season this weekend, hosting Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday, and the University of the South on Sunday.
