Despite a strong effort against an opponent ranked in the top-10
nationally, the Emory University women's soccer team was unable to
pick up a win, falling 1-0 to the University of Rochester in an
overtime heartbreaker.
Rochester struck with just 17 seconds remaining in the first
overtime period, scoring the ‘golden goal' to break the
scoreless tie. Each team took just six shots during the
contest.
Emory's best opportunity of the day came halfway through the first
overtime, when Olivia Lezanski took a shot from outside the box,
but the Yellowjackets' goalkeeper was able to make the save.
Emory's defensive backline, consisting of Emily
Rubin, Alyssa Perez, Lee
Bachouros, and Ashley Kaiser, turned
in one of their top performances of the season, aiding
freshman goalkeeper Erica Stein in the second
start of her career. Stein, who played the entire game,
is now 1-1-0 this season with a 0.41 goals against
average.
Emory fell below .500 with the loss, dropping to 4-5-5 on the
campaign, and to 0-3-2 in UAA matches. Rochester, ranked
10th in the nation, improved to 11-3-2 overall with a
4-1-0 in-conference record.
The Eagles will look to end a three-game losing streak on Sunday,
as Emory will travel to Cleveland, OH to face Case Western Reserve
University in its final conference road match of the season.
