Kaele Leonard

Kaele Leonard

Emory University sophomore goalkeeper Kaele Leonard did not allow a goal over the course of 110 minutes of two NCAA Championship matches this weekend.  Against fifth-ranked Wheaton College (Ill.) in the third round of the tournament, Leonard made three saves in the second half and both overtime periods to force a 1-1 with the Thunder.  Then, during the ensuing shootout, she made a key save on a potential match-clinching shot by Wheaton, allowing Emory to eventually advance 9-8 on penalty kicks.  Facing second-ranked Hardin-Simmons University in the semifinals, which featured the top-ranked offense in Division III this season, Leonard played a scoreless second half, converting four saves during the game.  Leonard, who began the week ranked sixth among Division III goalkeepers in save percentage and 10th in goals against average, finished her season with a school-record 0.33 goals against average, a .926 save percentage and a 12-1-4 record.  Her performance helped the Eagles to their best NCAA Championship finish in the program’s history, and an overall record of 16-2-4.
