The Emory University women's soccer received another stellar performance on the road from its defense, as the fifth-ranked Eagles shut out Birmingham-Southern College 3-0 on Friday night.

The shutout was the third straight for the Eagles and the fourth overall for the team this season.  Emory has now played the last 373 minutes and 18 seconds without allowing a goal, lowering the team's goals-against average to 0.19.

Emory's defense held the Panthers to just seven shots in the game, only two of which were on goal.  Meanwhile, the Eagles offense took 23 shots, including nine on target.

Emory took a 1-0 lead in the 16^th minute of play, as sophomore all-American Lauren Gorodetsky was able to score on a shot off a rebound from a corner kick from senior Lidija Barauskas.  The goal was the defender's first of the campaign.

The Eagles extended their lead in the 32^nd minute, when sophomores Kelly Costopoulos and Clare Mullins hooked up for a goal, as Mullins sent a cross from the top right of the box that Costopoulos was able to head in for her first score of the season.

Freshman Emily Feldman secured the Eagles' victory in the second half, scoring her team-leading fourth goal in the 77^th minute of play.  Junior Merrill Bachouros assisted on the goal, her first of the season.

Junior goalkeepers Erica Stein and Kaele Leonard each played a shutout half of soccer, making one save apiece.  Stein earned the victory, improving to 3-0-1 on the season.

The Eagles remained undefeated on the season with the win, improving to 4-0-1.  Birmingham-Southern dropped to 1-3-1 on the year with the loss.

After their five-game season-opening road trip, the Eagles will finally make their home debut on Sunday, as Emory will return to the Woodruff Physical Education Center to host Maryville College at 3:30 PM, in a rematch of last season's NCAA Tournament first round game, which the Eagles won 2-0.

The Eagles have held their opponents to single digit shot totals in four of their five games this season… No team has managed more than five shots on goal against Emory this season… The Eagles have not allowed a second half goal in the last 11 games… Leonard extended her scoreless minutes streak to 600 minutes, the third-longest streak in school history… Feldman leads all Emory scorers with four goals and nine points this season, and has scored or assisted on a goal in all five Emory games… Her four goals are tied for the third-most through five games in school history… The Eagles are undefeated through five games for the eighth time in school history and the fourth time in the last five years.
