#4 Eagles Remain Undefeated with 4-0 Win over Sewanee

The fourth-ranked Emory University women's soccer kept its undefeated record intact, winning 4-0 at the University of the South (Sewanee) on Sunday afternoon.

With the victory, the Eagles improved to 7-0-1, while Sewanee dropped to 2-6-1 on the year with the loss.  Emory is now 5-0-1 in games away from the Woodruff P.E Center this season.

The Eagles got on the board in the 21st minute, as center back Lauren Gorodetsky scored her third game winning goal in the last four Emory contests, this time converting the score off a set piece.  The Eagles extended their lead to 2-0 heading into halftime, after junior Merrill Bachouros scored off a free kick in the 35th minute.

The Eagles quickly got back to work in the second half, as Clare Mullins scored on a penalty kick just 33 seconds into the frame, her second of the season.  Emory picked up an insurance goal in the 65th minute, with Bachouros scoring her second goal of the game, this time off a Kelly Costopoulos assist.

It was the second two-goal game of the season for Bachouros, and the third multiple-goal game of her career.  She is now second on the team with four goals and 11 points.

Emory goalkeepers Erica Stein and Kaele Leonard combined for the shutout in the contest, the defense's seventh through eight games this season.  Leonard is now five minutes and 46 shy of matching former Eagle Amy Franciscovich's record for consecutive scoreless minutes.

Emory's defense allowed Sewanee just two shots in the game, only one of which was on goal.  The Eagles outshot the Tigers 19-2 in the contest, including a 13-1 mark in the second half.

Emory will return to action on Wednesday with their final contest before the start of University Athletic Association (UAA) play, hosting Agnes Scott College at 7:30 PM at the Woodruff Physical Education Center.
