Feldman’s Two Goals Lift #6 Emory to 2-0 Win at Berry

Feldman’s Two Goals Lift #6 Emory to 2-0 Win at Berry

Emory University freshman Emily Feldman recorded the first multiple-goal game of her collegiate career, scoring both goals during the sixth-ranked Eagles win at Berry College on Saturday afternoon.

Coming off the bench, Feldman got the Eagles on the board in the 33rd minute of play.  When sophomore Kelly Costopoulos' shot rang off the crossbar, Feldman was there to follow up, heading the rebound into the goal to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.  It was the fourth assist of the year for Costopoulos.

The score remained 1-0 until the 72nd minute, when Feldman intercepted a pass from a Berry defender that was intended for the goalkeeper.  With the keeper out of position, the freshman was able to finish easily for her second goal of the game, and seven of the season.

Feldman, who has come off the bench in all 14 Emory games this season, now leads all Eagles with seven goals, five assists and 19 points.  She is also second on the squad with two game-winning goals during the year, and has six points (two goals and two assists) in her last three games.

The Eagles were able to outshoot Berry 15-10 in the game, including an 8-3 edge in shots on goal.  Goalkeeper Erica Stein played a scoreless first half to earn the victory, improving to 9-0-1 on the season, while Kaele Leonard made three saves in a scoreless second half.

Emory's defense recorded its 12th shutout through 14 games this season, and is now two shutouts shy of the school single-season record.  The Eagles have allowed just two goals this season, good for a 0.14 goals-against average.

With the win, the Eagles improved to 12-0-2 on the season.  Berry dropped to 8-3-1 on the year with the loss.

Emory will open up a season-ending four-game home stand on Friday at 7:30 PM against University Athletic Association (UAA) opponent Brandeis University.
