Gorodetsky Named UAA MVP; Six Other Eagles earn All-UAA Accolades

Emory University sophomore center back Lauren Gorodetsky was named the fourth University Athletic Association (UAA) Most Valuable Player in the program's history, headlining a list of seven Eagles who earned all-conference recognition for their 2011 performances.

In addition to her MVP honor, Gorodetsky was also named to the all-UAA first team, along with sophomore midfielder Clare Mullins.  Emory junior midfielder Lee Bachouros, freshman forward Charlotte Butker, senior forward Caroline Coates, freshman defender Sarah Kuehl and junior goalkeeper Kaele Leonard were each named honorable mentions to the all-UAA teams.

Gorodetsky has led an Emory defense that has ranked as one of the best in Division III this season, recording 16 shutouts and a 0.20 goals against average.  Having started all 18 games she has played in this season, she added four goals on the offensive end for the Eagles, including three game-winning goals.  In UAA games this season, the all-American limited opponents to three goals for a 0.41 GAA, both conference-bests this season.

This is the second-straight year Gorodetsky has been honored by the UAA, after she was named to the second team last season as a freshman.  She joins former Eagles Diana Spock (1994), Andrea Pawliczek (2000) and Whitney Briggs (2008) as Emory's UAA MVPs.

Mullins has started all 19 games for Emory this season, scoring six goals and assisting on three others.  In UAA games this year, she was tied for the conference lead with two game-winning goals, in addition to ranking fourth among all conference players with three goals and fifth with six points.  Mullins was also a key contributor to the Emory's defense, which recorded a UAA-best five shutouts in conference play this year.  This was the first postseason honor of Mullins' career.

Lee Bachouros is currently tied for the team lead with six assists this season, two of which came during UAA games.  She has also scored a game-winning goal, and assisted on two other game winners.  Bachouros has also been a defensive contributor for the eagles throughout the year.  This marks the second-straight year that Bachouros has been named an honorable mention to the all-UAA team.

Butker has played in all 19 Emory games this season, making 141 starts.  She is currently tied for the team lead with six assists, third on the squad with 16 points, and fourth on the team with five goals.  Three of Butker's goals came during conference play, as she finished the year ranked fourth in the UAA with three goals and fifth with six points in conference contests.  This is the first postseason honor of Butker's career.

Coates earned her first-career UAA honor as well, as the senior finished the year with two goals and four assists for eight points.  All four of her assists came in UAA contests, ranking her second among all conference players.  In addition, three of her assists were on game-winning goals in UAA play.  Coates has started all 18 games she has played in this season.

Kuehl was a key member of the Emory backline this season, playing in all 19 games and making 14 starts.  She has helped the Eagles limit opponents to 6.2 shots per game and 2.5 shots on goal per game.  In addition, her efforts contributed to a 12-3 advantage in goals for Emory during UAA games.  This is the first UAA honor of Kuehl's career.

Leonard has played the second half of every Emory game this season in goal, and is on pace to set program records to goals-against average (0.20) and save percentage (.933).  With a 6-0-1 record this season, she has contributed to Emory's program-record 16 shutouts this season, allowing just two goals in over 878 minutes.  In addition, earlier in the year, she set the program record for most consecutive scoreless minutes player by a goalkeeper.   In UAA games, Leonard ranked second among conference players with a 0.53 goals-against average and third with a .882 save percentage.  This is the first UAA honor of her career.

Emory, which has matched a program record for victories with an overall record of 17-0-2, claimed the 2011 UAA Championship earlier in the season.  The fifth-ranked Eagles have advanced to the round of 16 of the NCAA Division III Championships, where they will face 20th-ranked Williams College this weekend.
