Emory University sophomore Lauren Gorodetsky was named to the D3Soccer.com all-America First Team after leading the Eagles' record-setting defense during the 2011 season.

Gorodetsky became the first Eagle to be named to an all-America first team since 2001, when Annie Schenck earned the honor from the NSCAA.  She joins Schenck (2000 and 2001) and Amy Carter (1996) as the only all-America first team selections in the program's history.  Gorodetsky is the first Emory player to be named an all-American by D3Soccer.com, which began to award post-season honors following the 2010 campaign.

The defender was the only sophomore or younger to appear on either of the top-two D3Soccer.com All-America teams, and one of only two non-seniors on the first team. 

Earlier in the year, Gorodetsky was named to the NSCAA All-America Second Team for the second-straight season.  In addition, she was named the Most Valuable Player of the University Athletic Association (UAA), while earning a place on the all-conference first team.  Gorodetsky was recognized for her academic success as well, claiming a spot on the Capital One Academic All-District team.

Gorodetsky led an Emory defense that allowed just five goals all season, finishing third among NCAA Division III teams with a 0.242 goals-against average, the best mark in the program's history.  The Eagles' backline shut out a program-record 16 opponents, good for a 0.8 shutout percentage, also the third-best mark among Division III squads in 2011.

The sophomore contributed offensively as well, scoring four goals for eight points during the year.  Three of her four goals scored were game-winning strikes.

Gorodetsky helped lead the Eagles to the first undefeated regular season in Emory Athletics history, and to the program's sixth UAA Championship.  Emory advanced to the round of 16 of the NCAA Championships, ending the campaign with an overall record of 17-1-2.
