Emory University senior Kaele Leonard led the 16th-ranked Eagles to the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship with a strong performance during the team’s scoreless tie against 17th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University and the ensuing shooting. Playing the second half of Sunday’s quarterfinal match against the Tartans, Leonard made four saves to help send the game into a shootout, where she made a diving saves in both the first and ninth rounds of shots to allow the Eagles to advance. During the second half of the Eagles’ 2-1 win over Loras College, the goalkeeper made one save in 45 minutes, allowing one goal. This season, Leonard is 5-1-6, and leads all Eagles with a 0.41 GAA and a .861 save percentage. Emory, now 14-1-7, advanced to the NCAA Semifinals for the first time in the program’s history.
