#2 Emory Claims 4-0 Win over Berry

The Eagles completed a perfect weekend at home on Sunday afternoon, handing Berry College a 4-0 loss at the Woodruff Physical Education Center in the team's final game before the start of the conference schedule.

The win raised Emory's record to 6-0-2 on the season, and extended the team's streak of regular season games without a loss to 32 games.  Berry dropped to 2-4-0 with the loss.

The game was dominated by the Eagles defense, which held Berry College without a shot for the entire game.  It marked the second-straight contest that Emory's backline has not allowed a shot on goal to its opponent.

With the Vikings playing extra defenders in the backfield in an attempt to limit the Eagles' attack, the pace of the game started slowly.  However, junior Clare Mullins changed that in the 26th minute, scoring her second goal of the season.  Mullins was able to step in front of a clearing attempt out of the 18-yard box by a Berry defender, and return a rocket shot into the upper far corner of the goal for the unassisted score.

The Eagles extended their first-half lead in the 37th minute, as sophomore Charlotte Butker scored her third goal of this season, taking a shot from inside the box after passes from Karina Rodriguez and Meredith Doherty.

After Emory scored its second goal, the field opened up more for the team, creating addition opportunities on offense. The Eagles finished the first half with 18 shots, eight of which were on goal.

In the 57th minute, junior Kelly Costopoulos scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season, netting a shot from outside of the 18-yard box after receiving a pass from sophomore Kaelyn Lucas.  The Eagles capped off their scoring with Jennifer Grant's second goal of the year, as the sophomore scored on another long shot, this time on a pass from junior Greta Jochmann.

The Eagles ended the game with 33 shots, 14 of which were on frame.

Goalkeepers Erica Stein and Kaele Leonard combined for the team's fifth shutout of the season, with Stein earning the win in goal to improve to 3-0-0 on the season.

Emory will kick off University Athletic Association (UAA) play next weekend, hosting the University of Chicago at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 29th.
