Gorodetsky, Costopoulos & Romero Named to NSCAA All-Region Team

Emory University placed three players on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer All-South Atlantic Region Teams, with juniors Lauren Gorodetsky and Kelly Costopoulos earning first team recognition, and junior Veronica Romero claiming a spot on the third team.

This was the third-straight season that Gorodetsky has been named to the all-region first team, and the first all-region honor for both Costopoulos and Romero.

In 2012, Gorodetsky led an Emory defense that once again finished as one of the best in Division III, as the center back was named the Most Outstanding Defensive Player at the 2012 NCAA D-III Championships.  The junior was a key piece on a backline that finished 13th among Division III teams with a 0.461 goals-against average and 30th with a .583 shutout percentage, in addition to limiting teams to 7.1 shots per game and 3.6 shots on goal per game.  Gorodetsky also assisted on four goals and scored one, the game-winning goal in Emory's NCAA Semifinal victory over Wheaton College (Ill.).  Earlier this season, she was named the UAA's Most Valuable Player for the second-straight year, and claimed all-America first team honors.

Costopoulos, a center midfielder, finished the 2012 season tied for the team lead with eight goals, and assisted on three others during year to finish with 19 points, the fourth-highest mark among Emory players.  Half of her scores during the season were game winners, the most among Eagles.  Costopoulos was an all-UAA second team selection earlier in the season.

Romero finished the year tied for the team lead with 20 points, coming on a squad-best eight goals and four assists, including three game-winning goals.  Playing in 23 games and making 17 starts, Romero was also named to the all-UAA first team earlier in the season.

Emory finished second at the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championships, the best finish in the program's history.
