Fifth-Ranked Eagles Return to UAA Action against #14 Chicago

Emory University will play its first home conference game of the 2014 campaign on Saturday, October 11th, when the fifth-ranked Eagles play host to University Athletic Association (UAA) rival and 14th-ranked University of Chicago at 1:30 PM at the Woodruff Physical Education Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

UAA Update
Fourth-ranked Carnegie Mellon, 20th-ranked Brandeis and New York University each jumped to the top of the conference standings after one game, with Carnegie Mellon besting Chicago 2-1 on the road, Brandeis earning a 1-0 victory at home over Case Western Reserve, and NYU claiming a 1-0 double-overtime home win over Rochester.  Emory and second-ranked Washington (Mo.) tied 1-1 in St. Louis, as the two teams will enter the second weekend of competition tied for fourth-place in the UAA standings.

All eight teams will be back in action on Saturday.  In addition to the Emory-Chicago game, Washington (9-0-2) will be at Carnegie Mellon (9-0-0) at 1:30 PM, Case (7-2-2) will host NYU (8-3-0) at 1:30 PM, and Brandeis (11-1-0) will play at Rochester (4-4-3) at 4:00 PM.

Emory Eagles
Emory – ranked fifth in the NSCAA Division III Women's Soccer poll, sixth in the D3Soccer.com poll, and first in the South Atlantic Region poll – will enter the weekend as winners of five of their last six games with an overall record of 7-0-3, including a mark of 4-0-1 at home.  The Eagles began the week ranked 20th in Division III in goals-against average and 113th with 2.11 goals per game.  The team has outscored the opposition 21-4 this season and outshot opponents 227-80, including a 128-34 edge in shots on goal.

Sophomore Cristina Ramirez leads all Eagles this season with 10 points, coming on three goals and four assists, while senior Emily Feldman has scored a team-high four goals and assisted on one other for nine points.  Defensively, junior goalkeeper Liz Arnold ranks 18th in Division III with a 0.39 GAA and 33rd with a .882 save percentage, and center back Hannah Meyer has anchored the Eagles' defense, leading all Emory players with 979 minutes played this year (every minute of gameplay for the team this year).


Emory is led by Head Coach Sue Patberg, now in her 10th year with the team.  She has compiled a 133-29-29 record with the Eagles entering Tuesday's game, good for a .772 winning percentage.  During her 22-year career as a college head coach, which includes stints at Division I programs in Georgia and Minnesota, Patberg is 279-116-47.  She is assisted by Rachel Moreland, Caroline Coates and goalkeeper coach Mike Wentzler.

Chicago Maroons
Chicago will enter the weekend ranked 14th in both the NSCAA and D3Soccer.com National polls and third in the Central Region.  The team has a record of 9-2-0, including a perfect 6-0-0 mark on the road, and the squad's only two losses have come against teams currently ranked in the top-25 nationally.  Chicago has outscored opposing teams 25-7 this season, and began the week ranked 44th among Division III squads with a 0.62 goals-against average and 92nd with 2.27 goals per game.  The Maroons have outshot opponents 187-116, including a 75-57 edge in shots on goal.

Chicago freshman Mia Calamari has assisted on nine goals this season, ranking ninth in Division III in the category, while Kaitlin Price leads all Maroons with five goals.  Goalkeepers Mallory Morse (5-0-0, 0.18 GAA, .963 save percentage) and Jacinda Reid (4-2-0, 1.06 GAA, .800 save percentage) have each played over 500 minutes in the net for the Maroons this season.
 
Chicago is led by Head Coach Amy Reifert, who has a record of 294-114-45 during her 24 years with the Maroons.  She is assisted by Kelly Lindsey and Bannon Stroud.

Series History
Emory is 15-9-3 all-time against Chicago, including a 9-4-0 mark in games played at the WoodPEC.  The Eagles have won the last two meetings between the squads, including a 2-0 win in Chicago last year.  Emory outshot Chicago 28-10 in last year's game (including an 11-4 edge in shots on goal), scoring a pair in the second half on goals from Jennifer Grant in the 52nd minute and Jordan Morell in the 90th minute.

Charlotte Butker has registered a goal and two assists in three career games against the Maroons, while Karina Rodriguez has scored a goal and assist on another in two career contests.

Emory Notes
Liz Arnold was named the UAA's Defensive Athlete of the Week for the second-consecutive week, after making a career-high eight saves against then top-ranked Washington last Sunday… The Eagles are one of eight remaining undefeated women's soccer teams in Division III, along with Carnegie Mellon, Messiah, Lynchburg, Lake Forest, Trinity (Tex.), Washington (Mo.) and Washington & Lee… Emory is undefeated in its last 17 regular season games dating back to last year, going 14-0-3 over the stretch… The Eagles are 114-38-25 (.715 win %) in UAA games, including a record of 65-13-8 (.802 win %) in home conference games… Emory has yielded one goal or fewer in 28-straight games, dating back to a 2-0 loss to Ithaca on September 7th, 2013… Emory has allowed a goal or less in 43 of its last 44 games… With an assist on the Eagles' goal against Washington (Mo.), Charlotte Butker moved into a tie for second in school history with Caroline Hoit (1997-00) with 25 career assists… She is now six assists shy of the program record of 31, currently held by Sylvia Ghani (1994-97).
