Ninth-Ranked Women’s Soccer Plays to Second-Straight UAA Tie

Ninth-Ranked Women’s Soccer Plays to Second-Straight UAA Tie

Ninth-ranked Emory University recorded its second-straight tie and its third in four University Athletic Association (UAA) games this season, as the Eagles and the Brandeis University Judges played to a 1-1 draw in Waltham, Massachusetts on Sunday.

Emory took the lead late in the first half, when freshman Melinda Altamore launched a shot from the far side of the field and about 35-yards out with just 41.2 seconds left in the frame, knocking it off the underside of the crossbar and into the goal.  It was the second goal of the season for Altamore, while freshman Melissa Ardizzone earned her second assist of the year on the play.

The score remained 1-0 until late in regulation, when a Brandeis counterattack resulted in the equalizer.  Samantha Schwartz finished the play in the 85th minute with her seventh goal of the season, off an assist from Melissa Darling, forcing the contest into overtime.

Emory took the only two shots of the first overtime, both of which were on goal, but neither of which could end the game in the team's favor.  Neither team would get a shot off in the second overtime, forcing the draw.

Emory now stands at 7-1-5 this season, including a 0-1-3 record in UAA competition.  Brandeis' record moved to 11-3-1 overall, and to 1-2-1 in UAA action.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday, October 22nd at 7:00 PM with a non-conference contest at LaGrange College.
