#19 Emory’s Offense Comes Alive in 9-0 Win over LaGrange

#19 Emory’s Offense Comes Alive in 9-0 Win over LaGrange

Emory University's offense burst out for a season-high in goals scored on Wednesday night, as the 19th-ranked Eagles claimed a 9-0 win at LaGrange College.

The win put an end to a brief three-game winless streak for the Eagles, who improved to 8-1-5 overall this season.  LaGrange dropped to 5-12-0 with the loss.

Emory got on the board early in the contest, when senior Claudia Rowe notched her third goal of the season off an assist from Kaitlyn Dorka at the 3:15 mark of the contest.  Dorka added an unassisted goal of her own, her third of the season as well, to push the Eagles' lead to 2-0 at the 18:16 mark.

Senior Karina Rodriguez padded the Eagles' lead with a pair of consecutive goals in short order, the first coming off an assist from sophomore Cristina Ramirez in the 23rd minute, and the second in the 25th minute off Dorka's second assist of the game.  Rodriguez now leads all Eagles this season with six goals.

Emory's scoring in the first half was capped off by three players who registered their first career goals for the program.  At the 30:50 mark, freshman Anna Gurney registered her first career goal, scoring unassisted to give the Eagles a 5-0 advantage.  In the 38th minute, it was junior Chloe Donegan notching her first goal of the year off an assist from Gurney, and then freshman Blair Ely scoring unassisted in the 40th minute, giving the Eagles a 7-0 lead going into halftime.

In the second half, freshman Emily Franty registered her first collegiate goal, scoring off a Donegan assist in the 64th minute of play.  It would not take long for Franty to notch her second, with the forward striking again in the 69th minute, this time off an assist from freshman Lindsay Wilson, to bring the Eagles' lead to 9-0.

The nine goals scored by the Eagles on Wednesday marked the team's highest scoring output since a 9-0 win over Sewanee on September 15th, 2012.

Junior Kristin Temple made her first career start in goal, and earned her second win of the campaign.  She did not need to make a save during the contest, as Emory's defense registered its seventh shutout of the year.

The Eagles will be back in action at Birmingham-Southern College on Tuesday, October 28th at 8:00 PM ET for the team's final non-conference game of the year.  The game is a make-up of two previously rained out contests between the two squads this season – one originally scheduled to be played at Emory on September 12th, and the other scheduled in Birmingham on October 13th.
