Butker Scores Twice to Lead #21 Emory to Win at Birmingham-So.

Emory University senior forward Charlotte Butker scored a goal in each half on Tuesday night in Birmingham, Alabama to guide the 21st-ranked Eagles to a 2-0 win over Birmingham-Southern College in the squad's final non-conference game of the 2014 regular season.

Emory's defense contributed to the win with its eighth shutout of the season, and its second-straight clean sheet, holding the Panthers to just eight shots in the game, only four of which were on goal.

Emory took the first eight shots in the game, including one from Butker in the 24th minute that found the back of the net to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.  The goal, Butker's third of the season, while senior Jennifer Grant assisted on the play, her first of the season.

The Eagles would carry the 1-0 lead into halftime, outshooting the Panthers 9-2 in the first 45 minutes, including a 3-0 edge in shots on goal.

After junior Liz Arnold played the first 45 minutes in goal without needing to make a save, she gave way to junior Kristin Temple in the second half, who turned aside the Panthers' first two shots on goal during the game in the 54th and 55th minutes.

However, the Eagles extended their lead to 2-0 on Butker's second goal of the game, coming after a free kick from sophomore Cristina Ramirez in the 56th minute of action.  It was her fourth of the season, and the fourth two-goal game of her career, while Ramirez collected her team-leading sixth assist of the year.

Emory finished the game with 22 shots, led by Butker's five.  Butker also led all Eagles with three of the team's nine shots on goal during the contest, and the game-winning score was her team-leading third of the year.

Arnold earned the win in goal, improving to 7-1-5 on the year, while Temple finished the game with a career-high four saves.

The win raised the Eagles' season ledger to 9-1-5 overall, while Birmingham-Southern fell to 8-7-1 with the loss.

With their non-conference regular season schedule now complete, the Eagles will begin final push towards the postseason when the squad hosts a pair of University Athletic Association (UAA) opponents this weekend.  Emory will take on the University of Rochester at 7:30 PM on Friday and Case Western Reserve University at 1:30 PM on Sunday, both at the Woodruff Physical Education Center.
