Altamore, Defense Lead Emory to Win Over Washington & Lee

The Emory University women's soccer team opened up the Washington & Lee Tournament by defeating the host school by a score of 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in Lexington, Va.

Sophomore Melinda Altamore gave Emory a one goal edge just six minutes into the second half with her first goal of the season and the Eagles never relinquished the lead.

Emory's defense was great again in this contest, allowing just two shots total in the 90 minutes with just one shot being on goal. The Eagles outshot the Generals 17-2 including a 9-0 mark during the first 45 minutes of play.

The 1-0 score gave Liz Arnold shutout number 15 in her Eagles career as she stopped the lone shot that came her way. Addie Healey made four saves for Washington & Lee.

The Blue and Gold will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they play Bridgewater College in the second game of the Washington & Lee Tournament. The match is scheduled to start at 12pm.
