Women's Soccer Coasts to Sixth Consecutive Win

Women's Soccer Coasts to Sixth Consecutive Win

The Emory University women's soccer coasted to its sixth straight win on Friday night, defeating Brooklyn College by a score of 9-0. Six Eagles tallied a goal in the contest led by Grace Edgarton and Kaitlyn Dorka with two goals each.

In addition, Cristina Ramirez tied a school record with four assists in the match. She is just the second player ever to reach that mark in a game and the first since Becky Gaspar did it against Agnes Scott College in 1990.

Edgarton got the Eagles off to a fast start, scoring just 45 seconds into the game, putting in the cross from Dorka to the far corner of the net. The goal tied for the seventh fastest in Emory women's soccer history.

The Eagles added an own goal to their ledger 12 minutes later to go in front 2-0 as a ball deflected off a Bulldog defender and into the wide open goal.

Edgarton registered her second goal of the game and of her career at the 16:26 mark of the half, scoring in similar fashion off the long cross from Ramirez. Danielle Darius made it 4-0 less than a minute later, drilling home a shot from just inside the 18 for her first career tally.

Emory extended their lead right after halftime scoring three goals in less than five minutes. Dorka found the back of the net twice in the span of 2:34 before Abbe McCarter made it 7-0 at the 49:47 mark. Dorka put in the rebound off a Ramirez shot then moments later made a nice cut inside around a defender before bended it in to the far corner for the Eagles' sixth goal of the contest. McCarter pushed across her second goal of the season, scoring from close range off a Ramirez cross.

Sophia Dillon knocked in another close range shot for the Blue and Gold from a nice header pass from McCarter that came off another long Ramirez pass at the 62:16 mark. Lizzie Garrett-Currie provided the final blow with 5:25 remaining, finishing from just in front on a Melinda Altamore far cross.

The game was never in doubt as the Bulldogs never got inside the 18 yard box while Emory outshot Brooklyn 42-0. It was the second time this season, the Eagles held an opponent without a single shot. Kristin Temple and Danielle Staffin split the 90 minutes in goal for their second combined shutout. Temple started and played the first 73:54 minutes before being removed for Staffin.

Emory returns to action on Sunday afternoon with its toughest test of the season, hosting the defending national champions and fourth-ranked Lynchburg College to the Woodruff PE Center. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 1:00pm.
