Three Second Half Goals Gives #4 Lynchburg Win over Emory

The Emory University women's soccer team saw its six game winning streak snapped on Sunday afternoon, falling to #4 Lynchburg 3-0.

After being outplayed by the Eagles for much of the first half, the Hornets broke open the scoring in the second with a trio of goals scored by Hannah Olds. With over 17 minutes gone by in the second half, Olds registered her first goal of the contest, collecting a loose ball from just outside the six and putting it past Emory goalkeeper Liz Arnold. Olds added another tally 6:06 minutes later as Jade Woll found her teammate on a counter and beat Arnold to the far side. In the 80th minute, Lynchburg gained possession following an Arnold punt and made two nice passes to find Old, who beat Arnold again to the far side to give the Hornets the 3-0 edge.

Emory outshot Lynchburg 13-10 but the Hornets had eight shots on goal compared to the Eagles' four. The Blue and Gold had several good chances in the game despite the limited opportunities but could not convert. Anna Gurney found Kaitlyn Dorka on a nice pass with five minutes to go in the opening half. Dorka tried to go upper 90 to the near side corner but was denied by LC's goalkeeper. Trailing 2-0, Emory had another opportunity with Cristina Ramirez able to get a shot on net with the GK playing out of position but her shot sailed wide. Dorka corralled the miss and had a good rip at the net but was blocked by a Hornets defender.

The Eagles begin UAA play next weekend as the team travels to the University of Chicago on Saturday afternoon. Play is scheduled to start at 12:00pm EST.
