Ramirez Nets Fifth Goal in 1-1 Tie Against NYU

Junior Cristina Ramirez scored in the 69th minute to help the Emory University women's soccer team tie New York University on Sunday afternoon in Atlanta. It was the fifth consecutive outing that the Eagles played in double overtime and the fourth draw in five contests including three straight ties.

Megan Carver opened the scoring 1:33 into the second half. Melissa Menta sent a cross into the six-yard ox and Carver gained control and put a shot toward the goal. The ball went through Kristin Temple's legs to give the Violets the 1-0 edge.

Ramirez found the equalizer for the Eagles 22 minutes later. After a Jordan Morell pass into the box, the NYU goalkeeper tried to get her hands on the loose ball but Ramirez was there to knock it out of her hands and into the back of the net. It was Ramirez's team-leading fifth goal on the season.

After Ramirez's game-tying goal, the Violets had a chance to take the lead five minutes later as Sofi Toohey tried for the left corner off a rebound. However, Temple made great diving save, laying out with full extension, to keep the game at 1-1. Temple replaced Liz Arnold at halftime and made a career-high five saves in her 65 minutes of action. Arnold did not make a save in her 45 minutes as the Emory defense limited NYU to just two shots in the opening half.

The Eagles outshot the Violets 16-13 in the game including a 3-2 mark in the two overtime periods. Ramirez had the best opportunity for either side in both extra sessions as she had a chance midway through the first overtime. Ramirez one-timed Melinda Altamore's far cross off the free kick but her shot drilled the crossbar.

Emory will close out the regular season against the University of Rochester next Saturday, November 7that 11:00 AM. Before the start of the game, seniors Liz Arnold, Jordan Morell, Ally Peterson and Kristin Temple will be honored with an on-field ceremony.
