Women's Soccer Opens UAA Play at Home Against #4 Chicago

The Emory University Women's Soccer team, winners of their past three games, begin the University Athletic Association portion of their schedule on Saturday morning as the Eagles welcome fourth-ranked University of Chicago to the Woodruff PE Center for the conference opener for both teams. The game is set to get underway at 11:00 am.

Emory University Eagles

Three consecutive victories including back-to-back overtime game-winners put the Eagles 5-3 overall entering conference play this weekend. Emory is coming off its strongest performance of the year on as the Eagles knocked off 23rd-ranked Centre College 2-1 in double overtime, handing the Colonels their first regular season defeat in over a year. Freshman Caroline Kolski netted the golden goal to give Emory the win, putting in the rebound after a Melinda Altamore shot was blocked. The Eagles held Centre to just seven shots total, their second lowest output of the season. Also scoring in the contest was sophomore Madison Phaneuf on the double assist from classmates Sophia Dillon and Nikki Batt. With the win, Head Coach Sue Patberg moved just four wins shy of reaching the 300-win plateau in her coaching career as she comes into the weekend with a 296-127-54 overall record.

#4 University of Chicago Maroons

The Maroons come into play Saturday with an unblemished 9-0-0 record and are coming off two straight shutouts over Augustana and Carthage. Chicago has posted seven clean sheets in nine games this season and rank sixth in the country with a 0.22 goals-against average, allowing just two goals total thus far in 2016. The Maroons are led offensively by a trio of double digit point scorers in sophomore Jenna McKinney and juniors Mia Calamari and Madori Spiker. McKinney and Calamari rank second and third among UAA leaders with 17 and 15 points, respectively. McKinney has recorded a team-best seven goals in addition to three assists while Calmari is ninth in the country with seven assists on the year to go along with four tallies. Spiker has found the back of the net five times this year, second-most on the team, and has dished out two helpers. Freshman Katie Donovan has made an impact at the keeper position in her first season with the Maroons, ranking ninth among Division III leaders in GAA (0.24) and 11th in save percentage (0.941).

Amy Reifert is in her 26th season leading the Maroons, racking up 322 career victories and 15 NCAA Tournament berths including three straight. Reifert, in her 28-year coaching career, owns an overall record of 330-156-48.

All-Time Series

Saturday's matchup will mark the 31st meeting between the two schools as the two teams have played every year dating back to 1986. The Maroons have taken the last two meetings from the Eagles including a 1-0 decision in 2015. Despite the current two-game losing skid, Emory still holds a 16-11-3 lead in the series.

Emory stays home to face Sewanee University this Tuesday night at 7:00 pm before heading to 11th-ranked Washington University on Saturday to continue UAA play.
