Women's Soccer Hosts Sewanee in Mid-Week Matchup

The Emory University Women's Soccer team is back in action Tuesday night as the Eagles host Sewanee University in a non-conference matchup at the Woodruff Physical Education Center. The game is set to get underway at 6:00 pm.

Emory University Eagles

The Eagles have rattled off four consecutive victories including two over teams ranked in the NSCAA Top-25 to improve to a season best three games over .500 at 6-3 overall. Senior Cristina Ramirez and freshman Caroline Kolski provided the offense in the 2-0 win over fourth-ranked University of Chicago on Saturday afternoon in the University Athletic Association opener. Kolski moved into a tie for first on the team with seven points with her third goal of her rookie season while the goal by Ramirez was her second on the campaign.

The Emory defense also had another stellar performance, limiting the Maroons to season-lows in shots (9) and shots on goal (2). The Eagles now have eight such contests where they have held the opposition to under 10 shots total in nine games. Emory has outshot opponents 206-48 so far this season. Sophomore Nikki Batt was named the UAA Defensive Player of the Week for her performance on the Emory backline. Batt also added an assist on Emory's game-winning goal as she found a sliding Ramirez inside the six with a great ball through traffic. The helper was Batt's third of the season.

Sophomore Dani Staffin improved to 5-1 between the posts this season for the Eagles as she made two saves against the Maroons. Staffin now owns the fifth-best goals-against average in the UAA at 0.84 in six starts.

Head Coach Sue Patberg enters Tuesday night just three wins shy of victory No. 300 in her 23-year career. She owns a career mark of 297-127-54 including a 151-40-36 record in 12 seasons with the Eagles.

Sewanee University Tigers

After a four game losing streak, the Tigers have gone 3-1-1 in their last five contests as they travel to Atlanta with a 5-5-1 record on the year and defeated Oglethorpe University 3-2 in their last time out on Saturday. The Tigers have scored 15 goals in 11 games this year with six coming off the foot of senior forward Shelby Meckstroth. Classmate Nikki Johnston and sophomore Savannah Williams have each scored a pair of goals for Sewanee on the year while five other Tigers have found the back of net in 2016. Sophomore Dayla LaRocque leads the squad with three assists on the campaign. Freshman Samantha Bourgeois has started and played in all 11 games this season, posting 43 saves with a 1.50 goals against average. The Tigers are under the leadership of Patrick Johnston who is in the midst of his eighth season with the program. In his eight years with the team, Johnston has led Sewanee to a 77-51-10 record.

All-Time Series

Emory has dominated the overall series with the Tigers, winning 23 of the 27 meetings including wins in the last five times these two schools have squared off. The Eagles earned a 1-0 decision in last season's meeting, giving the Blue and Gold their fourth straight shutout over Sewanee in the series. Cristina Ramirez provided the lone offense in the contest, scoring an unassisted goal in the 11th minute. In 14 games played at the Woodruff PE Center, Emory holds a 13-0-1 advantage over the Tigers.
