Women's Soccer Heads to St. Louis to Battle #15 Washington

The Emory University Women's Soccer team returns to University Athletic Association competition this Saturday as the Eagles travel to 15th-ranked Washington University. Kickoff is scheduled for noon eastern.

UAA Update

Emory, with its 2-0 victory over then-ranked #4 University of Chicago on October 1st, is in a three-way tie for first place with #8 Brandeis University and University of Rochester as the Judges defeated Carnegie Mellon, 2-0, and the Yellowjackets upset WashU, 3-1.

In addition to the Eagles taking on the Bears, the UAA slate features Carnegie Mellon at NYU, Case Western Reserve at Brandeis, and Rochester at Chicago. All contests are set to begin at 11:00 am local time.

Emory University Eagles

Emory boasts a 7-3 overall record heading into Saturday on the strength of a five-game winning streak. On Tuesday night, the Eagles blanked Sewanee 1-0 with sophomore Sophia Dillon netting the go-ahead goal in the 69th minute on the assist from junior Anna Gurney. The Eagles held the Tigers to just three shots in the contest, outshooting Sewanee 33-3. During the streak, Emory has limited opponents to an average of 4.8 shots including an average 1.6 shots on goal and has outscored the opposition 16-3. The Eagles as a team rank 127th in the country with a sub-1.00 goals against average at 0.985. Sophomore Dani Staffin is 6-1 between the posts with a 0.72 GAA to go along with eight saves.

Emory enters Saturday with the 109th highest-scoring offense in the nation, averaging 2.3 goals per game. Sophomores Grace Edgarton, Danielle Darius and freshman Caroline Kolski are tied for the team lead with seven points on the year (3G, 1A). The Eagles also come into play this weekend ranked 13th in Division III with 23.9 shots per game with senior Cristina Ramirez leading the team with 39.

Head Coach Sue Patberg is now just two wins shy of victory No. 300 in her 23-year career before play beings this weekend. She owns a career mark of 298-127-54 including a 152-40-36 record in 12 seasons with the Eagles.

#15 Washington University Bears

The Bears bring back nine starters and 24 letterwinners from last year's team that reached the National Championship game. So far this season, WashU has posted an 8-2-1 overall record and is coming off a 2-0 victory over Fontbonne. On offense, the Bears are led by 2015 First Team All-American selection Katie Chandler who has recorded eight points (3G, 2A) through 11 games this season. Chandler is one of five Bears to register three goals on the year. Tied for the team lead with eight points along with Chandler are junior Gillian Myers and freshman Jesse Rubin three tallies and two helpers each. The Washington defense is headlined by a pair of returning seniors in 2015 First-Team All-American and D3Soccer.com Goalkeeper of the Year selection Lizzie Crist and All-Central First Team honoree Hannah Rosenberg. Crist has started 10 of 11 games this season, posting an 8-1 record with five clean sheets to go along with a 0.37 goals-against average. Rosenberg has started every game this season for the Bears, recording one goal and two assists for four points and has helped the WashU backline limit opposing teams to just five goals in 11 games this year.

Washington is under the leadership of ninth-year Head Coach Jim Conlon. During his time with the Bears, Conlon has posted a record of 141-33-13, good for a .789 winning percentage.

All-Time Series

Saturday will be the 28th meeting between the two schools dating back to 1989 with Emory leading the all-time series 15-7-5. However, WashU is 2-0-2 against the Eagles in the previous four meetings including a 3-0 victory last season.

The Eagles return to campus for a pair of UAA games next weekend as Emory hosts Case Western Reserve at 5:00 pm on Friday evening before taking on Carnegie Mellon at 11:00 am on Sunday. Before the start of the game on Sunday with the Tartans, the Eagles will honor seniors Hannah Meyer and Cristina Ramirez with a pregame ceremony.
