Women's Soccer Ventures North to Face #17 Brandeis and NYU

The Emory University Women's Soccer team hits the road this weekend for a pair of University Athletic Association contests. On Friday, the Eagles will travel to Waltham, MA to square off against #17 Brandeis University at 5:00 pm before heading to Riverdale, NY on Sunday to face New York University at 11:00 am.

UAA Update

Emory begins play tied for fourth in the UAA standings at 2-2, sitting one game behind first place Chicago (3-1) and Carnegie Mellon (3-1) and a half-game back of Washington University (2-1-1). Friday's slate of games include Rochester at NYU, Chicago at Case Western Reserve and Washington at Carnegie Mellon. On Sunday in addition to the Eagles at the Violets, Chicago takes on Carnegie Mellon, Rochester faces Brandeis and Washington travels to Case Western Reserve.

Emory University Eagles

Emory enters the weekend 9-5 overall and moved up to eighth in the latest NCAA South Atlantic regional rankings with three games remaining in the regular season. The Eagles rebounded after a tough 2-1 overtime loss to Carnegie Mellon on October 16th with an impressive 5-0 showing against Division II Brevard College on Tuesday night. Emory outshot the Tornados 41-0 including a 15-0 mark in shots on goal to pick up its seventh clean sheet of the year. Four different Eagles netted a goal led by freshman Shivani Beall's career day. Beall recorded two goals and an assist for a career-high five points. Beall now has a team-best 16 points, the second most by an Emory freshman since Charlotte Butker's 16 in 2011 (Emily Feldman had 20 as a freshman in 2011) and ranks sixth among UAA field players while leading all conference rookies in points as well as assists (6). Sophomore Jordan Doak added her first career goal in the win with sophomore Sophia Dillon and junior Kaitlyn Dorka contributing with tallies for the Eagles. Freshmen Haley Pratt and Danielle Wilson combined for the team shutout with Pratt playing the first 65:04 minutes to record her second win of the season with Wilson logging the final 24:56 in her collegiate debut

Head Coach Sue Patberg became the 56th member of the 300 win club in NCAA women's soccer history with the victory, improving her overall record to 300-129-54. In her 12-seasons with the Eagles, Patberg is 154-42-36. She is assisted on the sidelines by Associate Coach Rachel Moreland and Goalkeeper Coach Mike Wentzler.

#17 Brandeis University Judges

The Judges come into play 13-2-1 overall on the season and are ranked 17th in the latest NSCAA Top-25 poll and fourth in this week's NCAA New England regional rankings. Brandeis began the season 12-0-1 but are 1-2 in the last three contests with defeats to UAA foes Chicago and Washington. Senior Lea McDaniel powers the Judges offense with 11 goals and 25 points, figures that place her second among UAA field players. McDaniel is one of four Brandeis players with double digit point totals on the season along with senior Cidney Moscovitch and juniors Samantha Schwartz and Haliana Burhans. Schwartz ranks second on the team with seven goals and 15 points while Moscovitch checks in five goals and four assists for 14 points while Burhans has posted three goals and a team-best five assists for 11 points. Senior Alexis Grossman has played in 16 games, making 15 starts, in goal for the Judges in 2016, going 13-2-1 with eight shutouts while posting a 0.45 goals-against average and 56 saves for a .889 save percentage.

Brandeis is under the leadership of long-time Head Coach Denise Dallamora. In her 37 seasons with the program, Dallamora has guided the Judges to a 340-265-65. She is assisted Jenna Fisher, John Conlon and Bob Winch.

New York University Violets

NYU enters the weekend 9-3-3 overall, 0-2-2 in UAA action and will face Rochester on Friday night. The Violets dropped to sixth from fourth in this week's NCAA East regional rankings. Junior Teressa Fazio leads all NYU players with six goals and six assists for 18 points as she is putting together her best season of her career. Fazio is one of three Violets in the double digits for points along with freshman Alex Benedict and junior Marguel Love. Love ranks second on the team with five goals in addition to one assist for 11 points. Benedict is compiling a strong freshman season, netting four goals and five assists for 13 points through 15 games, making two starts. Senior Cassie Steinberg has started all 15 games between the posts for the Violets, recording a 9-3-3 record with seven shutouts, a 0.78 GAA and 57 saves for a .826 save percentage.

NYU is led on the sidelines by sixth-year Head Coach Michele Canning. In her sixth seasons with the team, Canning has posted a 66-35-10 overall record. She is assisted by Taylor Booth and Scott Waddell.

All-Time Series

Friday marks the 30th all-time meeting between Emory and Brandeis with the Eagles owning an 18-6-5 record against the Judges. The two teams have played to draws in each of the last two seasons and three of the last four meetings. Emory recorded the previous win in the series, a 3-0 decision in Atlanta in October, 2013.

Sunday will be the 22nd meeting dating back to 1995 between the Eagles and the Violets with Emory holding a 12-1-8 advantage over NYU. 11 meetings in the series have gone to overtime including the last two times these programs have squared off as the two schools have played to a 1-1 tie in 2014 and 2015. The Eagles earned a 2-1 victory in 2013 for last win recorded by either squad in the series.

Emory travels to Rochester, New York to face the Yellowjackets in the regular season finale on Saturday, November 5th. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
