Junior Abbe McCarter provided the heroics for the Emory University Women's Soccer team, scoring with one minute remaining in regulation to lift the Eagles to a 2-1 victory over NAIA's Georgia Gwinnett College in the season opener Friday night in Lawrenceville, GA.

McCarter stole a pass from just over midfield, dribbled a few steps before beating the Grizzlies' keeper with a shot on the breakaway from just outside the box to give Emory its first win of the 2017 campaign. The goal marked the first game-winner of McCarter's career.

Junior Sophia Dillon opened the scoring in the 16^th minute and the Eagles remained in front until GGC found the equalizer in the 63^rd minute. Dillion paced the Emory offense with a team-high five shots.

Emory has now won three consecutive season openers and is 7-0-1 in its last eight.

The Eagles return to action Monday afternoon with a meeting against Pfeiffer University. Kickoff is scheduled for noon EST.
