McCarter's Late Goal Lifts Eagles Over Georgia Gwinnett, 2-1

Junior Abbe McCarter provided the heroics for the Emory University Women's Soccer team, scoring with one minute remaining in regulation to lift the Eagles to a 2-1 victory over NAIA's Georgia Gwinnett College in the season opener Friday night in Lawrenceville, GA.

McCarter stole a pass from just over midfield, dribbled a few steps before beating the Grizzlies' keeper with a shot on the breakaway from just outside the box to give Emory its first win of the 2017 campaign. The goal marked the first game-winner of McCarter's career.

Junior Sophia Dillon opened the scoring in the 16th minute and the Eagles remained in front until GGC found the equalizer in the 63rd minute. Dillion paced the Emory offense with a team-high five shots.

Emory has now won three consecutive season openers and is 7-0-1 in its last eight.

The Eagles return to action Monday afternoon with a meeting against Pfeiffer University. Kickoff is scheduled for noon EST.
