Women's Soccer Dominates Greensboro, 6-0, for Third Win

The Emory University women's soccer team returned to the win column in dominating fashion Saturday afternoon, dispatching the Greensboro College Pride by a score of 6-0 at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta, GA.

The Eagles scored 99 seconds into the contest and never looked back in the six-goal rout. With the win, Emory improved to 3-0-1 while the Pride slipped to 2-2. For the game, the Eagles managed a 45-2 edge in total shots and a 20-1 advantage in shots on goal. The 45 shots were the 10th-most by an Emory team in a single game in program history.

Junior Aubrey Blanchard found the back of the net twice on the day to lead the Eagles in the scoring column. Blanchard and classmate Natalie Klar each totaled seven shots to pace the team with Klar topping the club with five shots on goal.

Senior Samantha Hilsee opened the scoring at the 1:39 minute mark as she headed in a Lindsey Breskow cross for her third goal of the season. Less than two minutes later, junior Kylie Hall got around a pair of defenders before beating the keeper to the near post for her first marker in 2021, off the touch from senior Molly Miller.

Blanchard rounded out the first half scoring with back-to-back goals in the 21st and 22nd minutes. She scored first with a shot from the middle of the 18 that snuck past the diving goalkeeper. Fifty-five seconds after, Blanchard one-timed a shot from Hall's end-line pass from the penalty spot for her third goal of the year.

After being held scoreless for over an hour of game action, the Eagles put a capper on the game with two goals across the final five minutes of play. Senior Lindsey Reina notched her first tally of the year in the 86th minute as she finished from just outside the six following another end-line pass, this time from junior Peyton Robertson. With 44 seconds remaining, Reina passed the ball inside the 18 looking for a teammate but it deflected off a Greensboro defender and trickled past the keeper for an own goal.

Three Emory goalkeepers combined for the shutout on Saturday with senior Emma Platt starting and playing the opening 34:15 as she recorded her third win of the year. Junior Emma Miller made one save in her 31:01 minutes of action before being lifted for sophomore Maddy Schulte for the remaining 24:44.

Emory is back on the pitch Tuesday night as Covenant College visits Atlanta in a non-conference matchup. Kickoff from the WoodPEC is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
