#25 Emory Women's Soccer Upends #8 CWRU for First UAA Win

The No. 25 ranked Emory University women's soccer team earned a huge University Athletic Association victory Friday evening, knocking off No. 8 ranked Case Western Reserve at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta, GA.

The Eagles used two first half goals to upend the Spartans and collect their first UAA win. Emory improves to 9-3-1 overall and hands Case Western Reserve its first loss of the season, snapping its 11-game winning streak to fall to 11-1-0 and 2-1 in the UAA.

Sophomores Olivia McBerry and Mia Han scored less than 90 seconds apart mid-way through the first half to help the Eagles secure the win.

At 24:05, McBerry notched her team-leading sixth goal of the season as she finished from the top of the 18 off the back pass from junior Aubrey Blanchard.

Seventy-nine seconds later, Han doubled the Emory lead with her third goal of the campaign. Blanchard crossed it over a defender and found Han, who headed it home.

The Spartans got one back in the early goings of the second half, cutting the Emory lead to 2-1 in the 47th minute as Helina VanBibber one-timed a shot from a Anika Washburn offering.

CWRU had three more chances in the later stages of the half including two off the boot of Washburn but junior Emma Miller was there for the save each time. Miller finished with five saves in the win.

Emory rounds out the first UAA double weekend Sunday morning, hosting No. 15 Carnegie Mellon. Prior to the opening touch, the Eagles will honor its nine-member senior class with a special on-field ceremony.
