Women's Soccer Falls at Pacific Lutheran, 1-0

The Emory University women's soccer team fell Saturday night in the first of two out west, falling to Pacific Lutheran by a 1-0 decision in Tacoma, WA.

The match was evenly contested as both teams registered 16 shots with the Lutes narrowly finishing with a 6-4 edge in shots on goal while the Eagles outpaced PLU 9-3 in corner kicks.

The decisive goal came in early stages of the contest as Pacific Lutheran's Alyssa Leong capitalized on an Emory turnover in the 11th minute. Leong picked up the turnover, leading to a one-on-one situation with keeper Emma Miller where Leong was able to slot a shot into the lower left corner.

Most of the Eagles chances came in the opening 45 minutes as Emory put four shots on frame but were turned away each time. Senior Kylie Hall and graduate transfer Mara Rodriguez combined for eight of the Eagles' shots with Hall recording three shots on goal.

PLU's Shaylin Cesar totaled four saved for her second straight shutout while Miller posted five saves.

Emory concludes its cross-country trip Monday afternoon against Puget Sound with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 PM EST.
