Women's Soccer Dominates WashU for Fifth Consecutive Win

The Emory University women's soccer team continued its dominant run of late, posting its fifth consecutive win with a 3-0 shutout of WashU Saturday afternoon in the University Athletic Association opener in Atlanta.

The Eagles (6-2, 1-0) picked up their first win over the Bears in 10 meetings and snapped a six-match losing skid in the series with Saturday's convincing win. The three goals also marked the most from an Emory team in the series since 2007.

Emory spread the love around with each of the three goals coming from different players with senior Kylie Hall continuing to shine in on the offensive end, scoring her fourth goal of the year and recorded her fifth straight game with an assist, posted her tenth assist to move her into a tie for the second most in Division III this season. Hall also continues to move up the Eagles record books as she is now two assists shy of tying the program record for most assists in a single season. Senior Aubrey Blanchard continued her excellent season as well, scoring her fifth goal of the season which sees her atop the leaderboard of Emory goal scorers this year.

In what was a slow start to the afternoon contest between the Eagles and Bears, neither team took a shot until 15 minutes into the match and the Bears not posting their first shot attempt until the 60th minute. The Eagles, meanwhile, continued to mount pressure steadily increasing it until they broke through with their first goal of the match off of the right foot of junior Grace Reyer in the 42nd minute. Senior Natalie Klar played a beautiful ball into the box from the left side that grazed the fingers of the outstretched arm of the Bears keeper before falling perfectly to Reyer for the first goal of the match.

The Eagles carried their momentum from the close of the first half into the second, as Hall played a great volley off her left foot from freshman Samantha Lim into the back of the net to give Emory the sturdy two goal lead. From there, the Eagles began to play the possession game, holding onto the ball for long stretches of time before earning a corner kick in the 65th minute. Hall played a ball into the back of the box off of the corner where only Blanchard was able to reach it as she swiftly put the ball into the top left corner of the goal on a clean header. The Eagles would go into cruise control from there, allowing just two total shot attempts and one shot on goal from the Bears to earn the victory.

The Eagles are back in action Tuesday evening when they are set to take on crosstown foe Oglethorpe University at the Woodruff PE Center at 5:00 PM.
