Women's Soccer Remains Perfect in UAA Play; Defeats Brandeis 3-1

The Emory University women's soccer team remained unbeaten in University Athletic Association play Sunday afternoon, defeating Brandeis University 3-1 at the WoodPEC in Atlanta.

The Eagles, now winners of nine consecutive games, improved to 10-2 following the win and stayed perfect in the UAA at 4-0. With three games remaining in UAA play, the Eagles are tied at the top of the standings with Case Western Reserve at 4-0 with Carnegie Mellon sitting a half game back at 3-0-1. Emory will play the Tartans and Spartans as part of the next UAA double weekend on October 29 and 31.

The nine-game winning streak for the Eagles is the longest by an Emory team since 2013 and is now tied for the second-longest winning streak in team history.

Junior Grace Reyer put the Eagles on the board first at the 15:51 mark with the game's lone score of the opening half as she took advantage of a Brandeis turnover outside the six and slotted a shot past the Judges' keeper to the far post for her seventh goal of the season.

The Judges tied things up at 1-1 as play got underway in the second half, scoring 21 seconds following the break. Brandeis gained possession and proceeded to see Caroline Swan boot a pass deep towards the attacking end, finding Juliette Carriero who raced past two Emory defenders to the ball before lofting a shot over senior Emma Miller for the score. The goal snapped the Eagles' shutout streak, as it was the first goal allowed in five games and the first goal Emory surrendered in a UAA contest this season.

The game was not tied for long as the Eagles went back in front at the 52:05 mark with senior Kylie Hall converting a penalty kick following a handball inside the box. It marked Hall's third straight game with a successful penalty kick attempt and kept her consecutive games with a point streak intact, giving the senior nine straight games with at least one point – a new Emory team record.

Freshman Samantha Lim provided the insurance goal for the Eagles as she found the back of the net for the second time in three games. Classmate Riley Miller sent a long free kick to the top of 18 where it bounced over several players before finding Lim who tapped it past the keeper.

The Eagles look to close out the non-conference slate with upcoming games against in-state foes Piedmont and Covenant, beginning first with the Lions on Thursday night. Kickoff in Demorest is set for 6:30 PM.
