Carnegie Mellon Snaps Women's Soccer's Big Win Streak

The Emory University women's soccer team had their ten game winning streak come to a close on Friday afternoon with a loss to conference foe Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh, PA.

With their first conference loss of the season, the No. 15 ranked Eagles fell to 11-3 and 4-1 in UAA play and had their second longest winning streak in program history snapped. The No. 9 ranked Tartans (11-1-2, 4-0-1 UAA) are now a half-game back of Case Western Reserve for the conference lead while the Eagles trail by a game.

A flurry of action to start the game, highlighted by three goals in a three-minute stretch, set the tone for a high-intensity game. A meandering start to the match with just two shots in the first ten minutes of action quickly gave way to an explosion of action. The Eagles got the party started in the tenth minute when junior Grace Reyer one-touched a ball with her left foot that lifted just above the keeper and into the back of the net to give Emory an early one goal lead.

The Tartans responded with their first goal of the game thirty seconds later as Cecilia Dieterich put one in over Emory's Emma Miller. Roughly a minute later Carnegie Mellon would net their second goal of the game with a drive towards the goal and a shot to the right corner from Jenna Hallbeck.

The game slowed from there as the Eagles would land just one more shot on goal for the remainder of the match. The Tartans would go on to score an insurance goal in the 79th minute on a shot that would dribble past Miller to put Carnegie Mellon up 3-1.

The Eagles are back in action on Sunday at 12:30 PM against No. 4 ranked Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, OH with an opportunity to regain the conference lead.
