Women's Soccer Loses Heartbreaker to Case Western Reserve

Women's Soccer Loses Heartbreaker to Case Western Reserve

The Emory University women's soccer team lost a defensive thriller to undefeated Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, OH on Saturday afternoon by a score of 1-0.

The No. 15 ranked Eagles sit at 11-4 and 4-2 in UAA play after their loss to the No. 4 ranked Spartans (14-0-1, 5-0-1 UAA) with one conference game remaining on the regular season slate.

The game quickly established itself as a defensive affair with the two teams combining for just five total shots in the first half as the two headed into halftime knotted at zero goals apiece. The Eagles had a bit of a scare in the sixth minute of the first half with a foul in the box giving the Spartans a penalty kick and a chance to establish an early lead but an incredible read from Emory keeper Emma Miller allowed her to make the save on the shot from Elizabeth White.

The second half started with a rip from junior Mia Han that forced the Spartans keeper to make an impressive save in the 50th minute. A little bit of offensive pressure from Case Western Reserve set up a corner kick in the 62nd minute. Off of the corner kick the Spartans Merry Meyer was able to tap a shot into the low right corner of the net to give Case Western Reserve the 1-0 lead and eventually the win.

The Eagles would continue to fight with a good look from senior Kylie Hall that the Spartans keeper made yet another play on. One last ditch effort from Emory in the 89th minute saw a blast from freshman Nikki Grosso bounce off the crossbar as the Eagles dropped their second consecutive game of conference play.

The Eagles will close out the regular season and conference play next Saturday at 1:30 PM when they will play host to Rochester.
