Women's Soccer Rolls to 7-0 Win over Piedmont in NCAA First Round

The Emory University women's soccer team advanced to the second round of NCAA tournament Saturday afternoon following a thoroughly convincing 7-0 win over Piedmont University in Atlanta.

Junior Mia Han and sophomore Chayse Corfman combined for five goals while seniors Kylie Hall and LJ Kolodge added two more as the Eagles will play in the round of 32 for third time in their last four appearances. The seven goals are the most scored by an Emory team in NCAA tournament team history.

Han was the star in the early stages, scoring three times within the opening twenty minutes to record the Eagles' third hat trick of the year.

Her first goal came with 6:31 gone by, knocking in the rebound following a Samantha Lim close range shot that was initially stopped by the Piedmont keeper. Eight minutes later Han was back at it, one-timing a Hall cross at the top of the six for the score. A little over five minutes later at the 19:59 mark Han notched her third straight score, knocking in a shot from the penalty spot after Kolodge took stole a fail clear attempt.

Hall rounded out the first half scoring two minutes later in the 22nd minute, recording a left-footed goal from right in front after junior Grace Reyer found her inside the box.

Kolodge opened the scoring in the second half just 30 seconds in, tapping a loose ball inside the six after it had deflected off a defender.

Corfman provided the game's final scores in the 69th and 75th minutes, first scoring on a leaping header on a Brooke Tylka cross in prior to knocking in a rebound on the goal line following a pair of Haley Barge shot attempts were turned away.

Emory ended the contest with a 44-3 margin in shots and had 25 shots on goal.

The Eagles, now sitting at 13-4 overall, await the winner of Centre-Washington & Lee in the second round. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 PM Sunday afternoon in Atlanta.
