Women's Soccer Nets Season-High 8 Goals in Win at Birmingham-Southern

The Emory University women's soccer team recorded a season-high output in goals Wednesday night, downing regional foe Birmingham-Southern at Goldfarb Field in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Eagles scored four goals in each half for the 8-0 victory, their sixth win of the season. Senior Kylie Hall and graduate student Claire Wilkinson each netted two goals to lead the Emory scoring barrage.

Freshman Kaitlyn Nimmer was the first Eagle to cash in on the scoring, putting the Eagles on the board just 2:34 into the game with an unassisted tally. Classmate Katie Hungness doubled the score in the 18th minute while reigning UAA Athlete of the Week, Emily Woodall, made it 3-0 in the 33rd minute with an assist from Madison Teng. Wilkinson rounded out the Emory scoring in the opening half, registering the first of her two markers in the 37th minute.

At the 56:41 mark, sophomore Emma Bernstein collected her first career goal thanks to an Wilkinson assist. Not too long after, Hall picked up the first of two straight goals, scoring her first at 60:41 before notching the brace at 69:27. Just as she did in the first half, Wilkinson concluded the scoring in the second half as she put the final touches on the win with a goal with 11 seconds remaining on the clock.

Emory ended the contest with a 38-4 margin in shots and had 26 shots on goal. Sophomore Sophia Garcia earned the win with a clean first half between the posts while freshman Rachel Carr had two saves in her 45 minutes of work to preserve the shutout.

The Eagles will return to UAA action with two games this weekend at home, beginning Friday evening against Brandeis University. Kickoff from the WoodPEC is set for 5:00 PM.
