Women’s Soccer Unable to Complete Comeback Against NYU, Falling 3-2 at Home

The Emory women's soccer team hosted the NYU Violets for its Senior Day match on Sunday morning but were unable to come away with a victory after the Eagles fell behind early in the match. The Violets jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead within the first 20 minutes of the match, which proved to be insurmountable for the Eagles as they ultimately fell 3-2.

The Violets quickly got on the board, notching goals in the eighth and 19th minute. However, the senior duo Grace Reyer and Mia Han had an answer to the Violets' early offense. Reyer swung in a perfect ball off a corner kick, curling towards the goal where Han cleaned it up and knocked it into the back of the net to cut the lead to one and notch a goal on Senior Day.

The Eagles held the Violets' offensive attack at bay for much of the second half, stifling the few chances the Violets generated.

However, the Violets added one more goal in the 78th minute to extend their lead to two. Emory was able to score once more in the waning seconds of the match, to cut the lead to 3-2. As the final seconds were ticking off of the clock, Han ripped a shot from outside of the box, rattling off the crossbar. Freshman Kaitlyn Nimmer was there to clean up the rebound for the goal. Han was credited with the assist on the play.

Han led the offensive attack for the Eagles on Sunday, leading the team in shots with four while picking up three points. Sophomore goalkeeper Sophia Garcia finished the day with seven saves. With the loss, the Eagles' conference record drops to 1-3-1 and their overall record to 7-4-3.

The Eagles will get a chance to avenge their loss early this week against Maryville (Tennessee). The match against Maryville will start at 6:00 PM at the Woodruff P.E. Center on Tuesday, October 24th.
