Women's Soccer Downs Maryville, 5-0, in Non-Conference Finale

The Emory University women's soccer team was a convincing winner Tuesday night, defeating Mayville College 5-0 in the final home game of the 2023 regular season.

The Eagles recorded their ninth shutout of the season, and third in the last four games, while the offense reached five goals for the fourth time. Senior Mia Han was the standout in the non-conference finale, posting a season-high five points with two goals and one assist.

Han netted both her tallies within the game's opening 18 minutes as the Eagles jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage over the Scots. The senior forward put the Eagles on the board at the 5:55 mark, redirecting a perfect cross from graduate student Mara Rodriguez.

Twelve minutes later at 17:59 Han struck again, curling in a shot off the feed from classmate Kylie Hall and freshman Emily Woodall. With the assist, Hall was able to move into sole possession of sixth place all-time with 75 points in her Emory career.

The Eagles went into the halftime break with the two-goal lead but nearly had a much larger lead. Of Emory's 19 first half shots, the Eagles drilled the left post three different times from attempts by Han, Woodall and freshman Madison Teng.

Despite the near chances in the first half, the Emory offense was not quiet over the final 45 minutes as the team tacked on three more goals.

Freshman Kaitlin Nimmer collected her team-leading eighth goal of the season to begin the second half scoring. Nimmer cut inside a defender before launching a precision strike between the keeper and near post at 52:47.

Almost three minutes later, senior Grace Reyer came through with a highlight reel goal as she fired a shot from 23 yards out which drilled the top corner on the far post and went in.

Woodall scored the team's fifth and final goal with 1:13 left to play as she continued to excel on set pieces, expertly placing a free kick from straight on and just outside the 18.

For the game, Emory won the shot battle 32-11 and 10-6 in shots on goal. Sophomore Sophia Garcia made six saves for the third straight game as she collected the clean sheet.

Emory will close out the season with two UAA games on the road in consecutive weekends. The Eagles will head to Chicago, Illinois this Saturday for the second-to-last conference contest, matching up with the Maroons in a 12:00 PM ET opening kick.
