Emory Swimming & Diving Receives CSCAA Scholar All-America Honors

The Emory University men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs were recognized as Scholar All-America Teams by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), and 34 individuals received Scholar All-America or Honorable Mention recognition.

The 2010-11 Emory men’s program recorded a cumulative team grade point average of 3.52, the third-highest mark among the NCAA Division III squads that were recognized by the CSCAA.  The women’s squad featured a cumulative GPA of 3.56, the seventh-highest among Division III teams.

The Team Scholar All American award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams, who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented to teams achieving this standard in the fall semester and in the semester of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships (Winter/Spring).

Sixteen members of the Emory women’s team were named Scholar All-Americans, including seniors Liz Horvat, and Amy Minowitz, juniors Jennifer Aronoff, Anne Culpepper, Claire Pavlak, and Whitley Taylor, sophomores Taryn Lushinsky,Mia Michalak, Ann Wolber and Theresa Gallagher, and freshmen Suzanne Lemberg, Laura Manor, Courtney McDermott, Kylie McKenzie, Micah Sims, and Brooke Woodward.  The 16 Eagle honorees topped all other schools, with Kenyon College closest to Emory with eight honorees.

Earning Scholar All-America honors for the Emory men were senior Mackenzie Perry, juniors Daniel Kolb, Sean Ransenberg, and Ben Redpath, sophomores Justin Beegle, Peter O’Brien, and Richard Upton, and freshman Matt O’Brien.  The eight honorees for Emory also marked the most by a Division III team.

The Scholar All American award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers, who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher, for the semester or cumulative average, and have qualified for their respective national championship. The award is presented in the semester of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships (Winter/Spring).

Earning Honorable Mention Scholar All-America awards for the women were senior Marie Kim, and freshmen Roxanne Capron, Sarah Greene, and Adelaide Taylor.  Claiming the award for the men were juniors Joel Dobben, Jared Dubnow, and Zeke Van Keuren, sophomores Jeff Simpson and Kolin Smialek, and freshman Abhijan Khosla.

The Honorable Mention Scholar All American award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers, who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, for the semester or cumulative average, and have achieved a “B” time standard, but have not qualified to compete in their respective national championship. The award is presented in the semester of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships (Winter/Spring).

The academic honors cap off a strong season both in and out of the pool for the Eagles, after the Emory women won their second-consecutive National Championship, and the men finished third at the NCAA Division III Championships.  The Eagles will kick off their 2011-12 season at the Woodruff Physical Education Center on Friday, October 7th with the Blue/Gold Long Course Meet.
