Emory Swimming & Diving Suffers Losses to Alabama; Women Defeat Tulane

Competing against Division I competition during their dual meet on Saturday, the Emory University men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to the University of Alabama, but the women managed to split the day with a win over Tulane University.

The men suffered a 196-94 loss to Alabama, while the women dropped a 211.5-88.5 decision to the Crimson Tide.  However, the women were able to defeat Tulane 184-110.

Despite the loss for the men, a number of Emory swimmers turned in strong performances, including a pair of first-place finishes and six 'B' cut times.  Sophomore Jake Stephens won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:53.88, good for an NCAA 'B' cut.  The Eagles also received a first-place finish and 'B' cut time from their 200-yard freestyle relay team of sophomore Ryan Bass, junior Richard Upton, senior Sean Ransenberg and sophomore Ross Spock, who recorded a time of 1:23.08.

Other 'B' cut times from the meet for the Emory men came from Spock in the 100 back (51.71 seconds, third place), senior Patrick Augustyn in the 200 fly (1:52.82, fourth place) and the 100 fly (50.26 seconds, third place), and Bass in the 50 free (20.63 seconds, second place).

Although Emory's women did not win any events during the meet, a number of their times were equally impressive.  Headlining the day for the Eagles was freshman Nancy Larson, who recorded 'B' cut times in the 50 free (23.91 seconds, third place), 100 free (52.01 seconds, second place) and as part of the 200-yard freestyle relay, along with junior Anna Dobben, junior Ann Wolber, and senior Claire Pavlak (1:35.93, second place).

Also recorded NCAA 'B' cuts during the day were sophomore Sadie Nennig in the 100 back (58.10 seconds, fourth place) and freshman Michelle York in the 200 fly (2:07.61, fifth place).

The Emory women's record in dual meets this season moved to 1-2 with the split, while the men now stand at 0-2 on the year.

The Eagles will return to action in two weeks, hosting the Emory Fall Invitational on November 12th and 13th.
