Greene & Hope to Compete at NCAA Diving Regionals

Greene & Hope to Compete at NCAA Diving Regionals

Emory University will be sending senior Sarah Greene and sophomore Kellen Hope to compete at the 2014 NCAA Division III Diving Regional Championships, hosted by Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa on Friday, February 28th and Saturday, March 1st.

The first day of competition will feature the women's one-meter dive competition, and is slated for a 5:00 PM CT start at the Russell K. Osgood Pool.  The women's three-meter dive will be held on the second day, starting at 12:00 PM CT.

Four divers from the Midwest/South/West Regional meet will be selected to compete among the field of 24 at the NCAA Division III Championships, from Wednesday, March 19th through Saturday, March 22nd.  The three other regional meets – the Central hosted by Denison University, the Northeast/North hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the Northeast/South hosted by the Rochester Institute of Technology – will be determine the remainder of the field.

The highest finisher from the one-meter dive on day one will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships.  A bid will also be issued to the highest finishing diver in the three-meter dive on day two, not including the winner from the one-meter dive.  The third selection to the NCAA Championships will be awarded to the highest finisher from the one-meter dive that has not already received an NCAA bid, while the fourth will be the highest non-previously selected swimmer from day two.

A qualifying diver will be able to compete in both events (one-meter dive and three-meter dive) at the NCAAs, regardless of which event she qualifies in during the regional meet.

Last year, Greene, who was recently named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Diver of the Year, qualified for the NCAAs at the regional meet after finishing fourth in the one-meter dive with a score of 417.60 (there were four qualifiers chosen from the region in 2013).  Greene also placed fourth in the three-meter dive with a score of 398.85.  This will be Hope's first year competing at the NCAA Regionals.

Other competing divers include Gabriele Caglieris of Trinity, Ashley Heline of Trinity, Zoe Johnson of Luther, Carli Lessard of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Sheyenne Machida of California Lutheran, Tiffany Nguyen of Grinnell, Jessica Robson of Occidental, Brandilynn Schierland of Luther and Katie Sheldon of Trinity.  Heline and Sheldon each qualified for the NCAA Championships last season as well.
