Emory University senior McKenna Newsum-Schoenberg was named the University Athletic Association Swimmer of the Year, after helping lead the Eagles to their 17th-consecutive UAA Championship last weekend. Newsum-Schoenberg won the 500-yard freestyle in a UAA-record time of 4:52.13, while adding an individual victory in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a mark of 16:54.47. She also set a conference record in the 200-yard butterfly, swimming a time of 2:01.52, before claiming fourth-place in the finals. Newsum-Schoenberg added ninth-place finishes as a part of the Eagles’ 800-yard freestyle relay (7:32.89) and the 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:27.79). She accounted for 110 of the team’s 2,076.5 points, helping the squad to the UAA title.
