Emory Swimming & Diving to Host 28th-Annual UAA Championships

For the second-consecutive season and the 11th time in the 28-year history of the meet, Emory University will play host to the University Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Championships.  This year's meet, held at the Madeleine Jude Brown Aquatic Center inside the Woodruff Physical Education Center, will begin on Wednesday, February 11th and continue through Saturday, February 14th

Diving action will begin daily from Wednesday through Saturday with preliminaries at 12:45 pm, followed by the finals of the event at 5:30 pm that evening.  Swimming action on Thursday, Friday and Saturday will start with the preliminaries at 10:00 am and the finals at 6:00 pm.

Ticket Information
Fans planning on attending the meet will need to purchase tickets for each session.  Ticket prices for adults will cost $5 per session, with an all-session pass available for $25.  Tickets for children ages 3-12 cost $3 per session, with all-session passes available for $15.  Tickets can be purchased at the site of competition prior to the start of the sessions, using cash or credit (Visa, Mastercard and Discover accepted).  Doors for spectator seating will be open one hour prior to the start of each session.

Coverage
Fans unable to attend the meet can follow all of the action with a live high definition video webcast at http://emoryathletics.com/sports/mswimdive/live.  The video of the finals each night can be purchased for $7.00 each night, and purchase includes access to the archived video of the meet after the session is finished.  Fans can purchase a ticket to view the event each night by going to the webcast link approximately 15 minutes prior to the start of the session (5:15 pm), and clicking at the link at the top of the video screen.  Preliminaries each day will be free to view.

Last Year's Meet
The men's and women's swimming and diving squads from Emory University won their 16th consecutive UAA titles at the 2014 UAA Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Emory and Case Western Reserve University as weather prevented three schools from making it to Atlanta.


The Emory women, who went on to win their fifth consecutive NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving title in 2014, won the UAA championship with a score of 2,055 points.  Washington University claimed second place with 1,270 points, followed by University of Chicago (1,239), Carnegie Mellon University (1,137), NYU (1,010), University of Rochester (838), Case Western Reserve University (677), and Brandeis (269).

In the closest meet in the conference's history, the Eagles earned 1,533 points in the men's competition to edge Chicago by just 3.5 points.  Washington finished third (1,150.5) with Carnegie Mellon (1,116), CWRU (1,035.5), NYU (618), Rochester (618), and Brandeis (331) rounding out the standings.

Women's Swimmer of the Year Nancy Larson of Emory finished first in the 50-yard freestyle (23.42 seconds), 100-yard freestyle (50.81 seconds), and 200-yard freestyle (1:50.86).  She also swam on UAA-record setting 400-yard medley relay (3:46.30) and 800-yard freestyle relay (7:29.02).  Women's Diver of the Year Sarah Greene of Emory finished first in the one-meter dive with a score of 464.00 and placed second on the three-meter board.  Annelise Kowalsky of the Eagles earned Women's Rookie of the Year honors after setting UAA records in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.94) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:031.31).

Michael Lagieski of Washington was named Men's Swimmer of the Year and Rookie of the Year.  He captured the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events in UAA-record setting times.  Lagieski finished first in the 100 breast in 54.42 seconds and the 200 breast in 2:00.73.  Matthew Staab of Chicago repeated as Men's Diver of the Year after winning the three-meter dive with a score of 534.80 points and placed second in the one-meter event.

2015 Meet Outlook

The 2015 iteration of the UAA Championships are set to feature one of the most competitive fields in the meet's history.  Six of the eight women's teams competing during the weekend are nationally ranked by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America, led by the top-ranked Eagles and followed by #5 New York University, #7 Washington University (Mo.), #10 University of Chicago, #12 Carnegie Mellon University and #25 University of Rochester.

An additional five men's teams are ranked, including fifth-ranked Emory, eighth-ranked NYU, ninth-ranked Washington, 10th-ranked Chicago and 14th-ranked Carnegie Mellon, while both Case Western Reserve University and Rochester received votes in the latest CSCAA poll.
