UGA Downs Emory Women's Swimming & Diving, 194-99

The Emory University Women's Swimming and Diving team was upended by the University of Georgia 194-99 on Saturday afternoon at the Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Georgia. With the loss, the Eagles conclude the dual meet portion of the season with an overall record of 6-1.

The Eagles still had a strong showing at the meet despite the defeat to the third-ranked Bulldogs, posting seven NCAA B Cut times on the afternoon.

Emory bookended the meet with a pair of NCAA qualifying marks in the two relay events: the 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle. In the 200 Medley Relay, seniors Annelise Kowalsky, Marissa Bergh, junior Cindy Cheng and freshman Maria Kyle placed second with a mark of 1:44.45. In the 200 Free, UGA's Chantal Van Landeghem, Rachel Zilinskas, Emily Cameron and Kimberlee John-Williams narrowly edged out Bergh, classmate Marcela Sanchez-Aizcorbe and sophomores Fiona Muir and Meg Taylor by just .18 seconds. Emory's foursome touched with a time of 1:35.18 in the second place finish.

In the individual events, Muir topped the Eagles with two NCAA B Cut times in the 100 Freestyle (2nd, 51.43) and 50 Free (3rd, 23.73). Adding NCAA qualifying marks was Cheng in the 200 Freestyle (1:51.19), Kowalsky in the 100 Breaststroke (3rd, 1:05.02) and freshman Maria Turcan in the 200 Butterfly (3rd, 2:06.20).

Emory returns to competition from February 8th through the 11th as the team goes for its 19th consecutive and 25th overall University Athletic Association title at the UAA Championships in Chicago, Illinois.
